WHERE HOPE BEGINS! Dear Teen Challenge Family, I was born in Long Beach, CA. Growing up my family was involved in ministry. For about four years my family and I lived in the L.A. Dream Center where my parents were influential in helping those starving on the streets of Los Angeles. I watched God’s hand on that ministry as many were set free from addiction. Amidst full-time ministry my dad had started a small family record label so a lot of my childhood was spent singing in church and recording for my dad’s album. During high school we moved to Humboldt County. Upon graduating I decided to move back to Orange County. I began working two jobs, enrolled in school full-time and was in a relationship. At this time my dad was very sick and I ended up watching him die. My dad was my best friend and his death left me feeling empty. To numb the pain my boyfriend and I started dabbling in drugs. After seven years of partying, work and school everything came to a halt. I ended up getting two DUI’s in one month, and I lost both of my jobs and my relationship. I decided to move back home to be closer with family. I was also dating an abusive man who was also using and drinking and picked up my third DUI. I was in and out of jail and felt hopeless. Soon after, I began using heroin and speed together. I was living in and out of casinos until I moved into a rundown barn with three friends where we all did drugs. Ironically this is where I felt the Lord more than I ever have in my life. I was having memories of my childhood I forgot I even had. I was so surprised He was talking to me in such a dark place. I knew I heard the call of my Creator. Since being in Teen Challenge the Lord has pursued a personal relationship with me and I feel a genuine connection with my Creator. I came into this program with a variety of mental disorders but I now have more peace than I have ever had in my whole life. I would like to thank all those who support this ministry and made it possible for me to have this new life in Christ. - Heather
