Sports Highlights Sports Round Up Netball Nita Shannon Baywide Under 15 Tournament MMC Jnr A and Junior B teams have spent their last 2 Sundays playing in the Nita Shannon Baywide Under 15 Netball Tournament. The first day held in Rotorua saw the Junior A team come away undefeated and heading into the top spot for the second Sunday and day 2 of the tournament. Whakatane was the venue for Day 2 and the Junior A team narrowly lost to Trident in the semi finals. Junior Bs had a great couple of Sundays – 3 win’s from 4 games just losing to Otumoetai A by 3 goals. All the girls played well, with great attitudes. The two Sundays have definitely helped the girls to get to know each other and play as a team There were a few notable performances. Shayla Taite displayed outstanding shooting, defensive work & dedication, to play out the toughest game, which was against Otumoetai A. ge a P 2

Ella Carlson played all 4 FULL games, she had to play with 2 other different shooters, still shot well & overall adapted very well. Ella Mitchell for putting in a gutsy effort throughout the tourney, in a position she has never played. Overall all the girls played out of their skins! I was very impressed at the determination, their fitness, and their ability to apply all coaching tips after each quarter. And they all had lots of fun on the day which is what I encourage. Vanita Henry-‐ Coach. Special thanks to Shakira Kingi Coach Junior A and Maree Pollock, Manager of the Junior A, Vanita Henry Coach Junior B, Lyn Aitken and Kellie Spee managers for Junior B for all the organisation and support you have delivered over the past 2 Sundays. Congratulations to Armanii Ririnui on

making the Harbourside Under 15 team. First training for her starts tonight. Tuesday May 19th, good luck. Football, the Boys Red team took out another win over the weekend against Trident High 4-‐3, Boys Blue unfortunately couldn’t do the same against Otumoetai’s 2ndXI, losing 3-‐4. The MMC Girls Red team however proved again that they are too good for their current grade, beating TGA Girls navy 15-‐1.
Congratulations to Leonta Moses on winning the Eastern Central Bay of Plenty Archery Association Vera London Senior Women’s Compound Event, held over the weekend.
Netball 9Kowhai got off to a slow start, allowing Te Puke the luxury of a two goal opening lead. They eventually found their rhythm in a fast paced first quarter, the lead swapping several times but ending with the teams tied on 11 goals apiece. The 2nd quarter was less bountiful but equally hard fought, Kowhai adding just four goals to Te Puke's six, trailing Te puke 15-‐17 at half time. The third quarter was similar in tempo to the second, but Kowhai's shooters made better use of ball delivered to them, outscoring Te puke nine goals to three, taking a 24-‐20 lead. Mistakes from both teams started to creep in in the fourth quarter, but Kowhai maintained their four-‐goal advantage to win 32-‐28. Player of the day was Hazel Whitehead, with notable performances from all, especially Keeley Anderson.
