Spring 2016 MUSA Rule Changes

All, This information is for clarification of the upcoming addition of the “build out line”. The build out line is being added to promote playing the ball out of the back in an unpressured setting. The rule for playing the build out line is when the goalkeeper has the ball either during play (from opponent) or from a goal kick (for U6, U7 and U8 since no goalies). The opposing team must move behind the build out line. The goalkeeper has the option to put the ball back into play quicker if they choose. For U9/U10 the goalkeeper will not be allowed to punt the ball, they must throw, roll or kick the ball into play. Below you will find examples for each field size.

I would like to add, the goal of MUSA recreational soccer is to develop our kids to become Select players. This is done by teaching passing (giving and receiving), dribbling, spreading the field and keeping all kids involved in the game (not parking kids in front of the goal). Without these skills our kids will continue to fall behind in skills development. Also, I am including the new standards chart for U6 ~ U13. Just in case there are questions about any other changes this should help.

Thank you in advance for your patience while we transition through these new rules. Sincerely, Solomon Forsythe MUSA Director of Referees
