EARLY RELEASE POLICY AND PROCEDURE FOR STUDENT-ATHLETES Athletes in both middle and high school may need to be released early in order to participate in sporting events. The Athletic Office will alert the Faculty via the SAAR report indicating which students are permitted to be dismissed early and at what time. Whether or not the student departs class at this time is as the discretion of the student. Student cannot request to be dismissed early without communication from the Athletic Office. If a student receives a deficiency notice and/or is deficient at the quarter and/or semester, the teacher has the discretion not to release the student early for academic reasons. If a student fails a class at the quarter and/or semester, the student may not participate in athletics or any extracurricular program. PROCEDURE 1. Teams requesting Early Release must first get approval from Athletic Director. 2. Athletic Director will ensure that the time requested and granted is justifiable. 3. Athletic Office will send SAAR to the faculty. 4. Student should contact their instructor the day BEFORE regarding his/her leaving class early the next day. This will ensure that the athlete does not miss out any work/assignments. This will also show the faculty that our student-athletes are being PROACTIVE regarding their academics. 5. Before class on the day of Early Release, the student should remind the instructor what time he/she will be leaving. 6. When it is time to leave, the student should excuse himself/herself from class as quickly and as quietly as possible as to not disrupt the instructor or class. 7. After putting his/her items back in the school locker, the athlete should either: a. Go directly to the parking lot for their ride. b. Go directly to Locker Room via the “Lund Center hallway” near the gym and use the last (SOUTH) door) and head to the locker room. Since there will be PE class going on, the students must be quiet and move quickly to the locker room. Students will NOT be permitted to go to the locker room using the Main Gym exterior doors. 8. Once done in the locker room, the student may exit the exterior doors nearest the locker room. NOTE: Parent may at their own discretion come to the school and check-out his/her child prior to the approved Early Release time.
