SPRING SYMPOSIUM April 1 and 2, 2017 — Bogus Basin Recreation Area

Join us at Bogus Basin for some fun in the sun. The 2017 symposium offers an opportunity to gain knowledge and skills for both sliders and riders. Everyone is welcome! Clinics This year’s clinic offerings are sure to be the best yet. In addition to a wide variety of fun, focused clinics lead by our Education staff, we are proud to announce the attendance of Stephen Helfenbein of the PSIA National Team and Tony Macri of the AASI National Team. Stephen and Tony’s reputations as a ski and snowboard professionals are golden and they look forward to participating in our annual bash. Make sure to register early as available spots in this and other clinics are sure to fill up quickly. A schedule of clinic assignments and weekend events will be provided in the registration packet. Registration packets can be picked up at the O’Michaels on Bogus Basin Rd, Friday, March 31st from 5:30 to 7:00pm. They will also be available ndr Saturday, April 1st on the 3 floor of the JR Simplot Lodge from 8:30 to 9:30am. The General membership meeting with the Board of Directors will begin at 6:00pm in O’Michales on Friday March 31st 2017

Activities The Saturday evening banquet will be held at The Red Lion Boise Downtowner beginning at 6:00pm. The menu will consist of a choice between salmon, sliced prime rib, a vegetarian option as well as many other delicious sides. In addition to a deluxe dinner buffet prepared by the professional staff, the banquet party will include a silent auction to raise donations for the Education Foundation. There will be an on snow demo day exclusive to PSIA/ AASI event participants, with several manufacturers and local retailers present. Laughter, camaraderie, and memories are included!

Lodging Participants are responsible for their own lodging arrangements. Red Lion Boise Downtowner has graciously extended a discounted room rate of $86.00 a night plus tax for symposium participants (Use code PSIA0331 for lodging discount), this pricing is good for three days before and after the event. Explore advanced techniques/tactics designed to improve your experience as an instructor as well as that of your guests. Kids Kamp – Haven’t had enough kid time this season? Sign up now for the last chance of the season to be a kid. Start your next season off right with some fresh tips and tricks for teaching children of all ages.

Experience the Mountain – Have you ever skied at bogus before? Thought it didn’t have much to offer? Join an education staff member based at bogus for the tour of a lifetime. Lean about all the secret pockets of great snow and how to ski them like a Bogus Pro. Skiing is FUNdamental – Come ‘drill down’ to see how the various use of drills effectively develops movement patterns. You’ll spend time applying the drills and their tactical application in varying terrain and conditions to better enhance your understanding of the five fundamentals of skiing and how they apply. For Ladies, By Ladies – Taught by our divisions top female clinicians. Come work on your personal skill development while enjoying the speed and camaraderie found when skiing with this women’s only group. FS1 Exam – (Saturday & Sunday) Group will be mixed participants, both ski and snowboard will be participating in this exam. This is a 2 day clinic/ exam, be sure to get your workbook complete prior to attending. Significant Other’s Clinic – Is your better half accompanying you this season to symposium, but not stoked to sit in the hotel or at home for the day? Sign them up for a clinic while you’re on the hill. This is a great opportunity for your partner to ski all day and join a clinic while they’re at it. USSA Crossover (Race Clinic) – Are you looking to get that racers edge in your own skiing? Ever wondered what it is like to chase gates? Now is your chance join in for a crossover race clinic and learn some new tips and tricks you can use every day to improve not only your skiing, but your guests skiing as well. Tactics for Senior Skier’s – Low impact alternatives when working with the senior client for skiing a wide variety of terrain. This clinic will focus on various strategies and tactics for this demographic to ski more with less fatigue. Precision Teaching and Skiing – Focused teaching is where you want to be and your client needs you to be. This clinic will help the participant identify and describe, with precision and accuracy using the Teaching Cycle, skill blends and movement patterns in skiers of all ages and abilities in varied skiing tasks, snow conditions and terrain options. Stance & Alignment (Saturday Only) – Visit with Jeff Jacobs of Foot dynamics to have your boot fit and alignment double and triple checked. Then head out on the snow and give it a try, don't like the stance? Head in for another adjustment and try again.

SNOWBOARD CLINIC TOPICS Ride with a National Team Member – Challenge your riding with an upper mountain tour de jour. Learn tactics and technique to ride a variety of terrain in the mountain environment all coached by AASI National team member Tony Macri. FS1 Exam – (Saturday & Sunday) Group will be mixed participants, both ski and snowboard will be participating in this exam. This is a 2 day clinic/ exam, be sure to get your workbook complete prior to attending. Riders Choice – This clinic will be a group lead clinic. We will focus on what the participants are most interested in learning. Topics may include but are not limited to; conditions of the day, movement analysis techniques, drills for skills, and overall honing of skill sets to create successful lessons. TELEMARK CLINIC TOPICS Free-heel Fest – Take the latest movement patterns from the national level and work to develop your skills to maximize your efficiency. Expect an all mountain clinic with the objective of maximizing your versatility with modern equipment in the conditions of the day. Saturday only. Movement Analysis – This clinic will cover cause and effect and help you in your movement analysis skills to find the root cause of what you are seeing in your student’s skiing. Tele For All – An introduction to telemark with a twist. It will emphasize a progression that takes full advantage of the skills already honed in efficient alpine skiing to enjoy the telemark experience. Take the latest movement patterns from the national level and work to develop your skills to maximize your efficiency. For new and cross-over tele’ers. Sunday only.
