Track and Field Website: You can reach the website by going to: http://springbrookathletics.org Select Indoor Track and Field from the drop down menu located on the right side of the webpage. Practice Times: Monday- Friday 3:30pm- 5:30pm. Saturday 9:00am-11:00am. Practice will take place on the Springbrook Track. First day of Practice Tuesday March 1st 3:30pm (all forms must be turned in to practice). Transportation Policy: Students will be transported to and from meets via school bus. Students must have a signed transportation form in order to carpool to team events or drive their own vehicle or obtain rides from other students, and or coaches. Uniforms: Please see hand out. Purchasing a uniform is not mandatory. Only purchase a uniform if you are certain your child will be competing in meets, or will be on the outdoor track team. All athletes for outdoor track compete in the regular season meets.

Equipment: Running shoes, Athletic clothing (Bring warm clothing-we practice outside), Water bottle, Sprint, or distance Spikes (1/4”) depending on which events you will compete in

Nutrition and Injuries: - Staying Hydrated - Nutrition - Injuries; please have your child report all injuries to the coaches, and have you child visit a doctor after an injury, please provide a note to coaches. Outdoor Track Policies Meet Policy: All athletes will participate in regular season meets. Invitational meets, and championship meets are limited to athletes who reach qualifying standards. Athletes will be selected based on performance and attitude. Attendance: MCPS Policy- Game day: Students are required to attend and be on time to all classes in order to participate. (Any appointments and special circumstances must be cleared with the coach and the athletic director in advance). Track Attendance Policy: All athletes are required to attend all practices and meets when selected to compete. If an athlete is absent from school, i.e.; illness for the full day the athlete may not participate in practice or a game. (This does not include school authorized field trips, and activities). Consequences for missing practice 1. Extra conditioning will be given (to be determined by the coaching staff in accordance to the reason for missing practice) 2. Meet suspension if the coaching staff determines the reason to be unacceptable or the player did not inform coaches. Consequences for being late to practice unexcused 1. Extra conditioning to be determined by the coaching staff. 2. Habitual unexcused lateness may result in meet suspension/dismissal from the team.

Behavior Policy: Grade eligibility is in accordance with MCPS policy. Please see MCPS website. Any negative behavior such as, but not limited to; fighting, bullying, inappropriate posting on social media, or negative behavior in class will result in immediate dismissal from the team. Eligibility & Student Athlete Requirements: -Winter athletic MCPS Eligibility: Requires a 2.0 GPA for 3rd quarter of the school year. -A 2.0 GPA is required at the end of the 4th quarter in order to remain eligible for playoffs or to obtain a varsity letter. Qualification for Varsity Letters: In order to earn a varsity letter for outdoor track, athletes must compete in either the County Championship, or Regional Championship Meet. Athletes must attend 80% of all practices and team functions and remain eligible through 4th quarter.

B.D.A.A.P. - Blue Devil Athletics Academic Program: This is a program designed to support all student athletes in their athletic and academic experience here at SHS. Student athletes are students first and achievement in the classroom is an athlete’s first commitment to his/her team. The program is designed to assist in balancing the demands and responsibilities of student athletes by monitoring grades biweekly and holding student athletes accountable for taking the necessary steps to improve learning, and performance in the classroom.
