Zonal Corners - In-swinging Corner kick. The set-up above is for teams playing 11v11 defending a corner by setting up zonally (not man to man marking). An in-swinging corner kick is when a player is crossing the ball with the inside of the foot that will bend the ball in towards the goal. On the left side of the field (as looking at it on the diagram), it will be a right footed kick. On the right side of the field , it will be a left footed kick. Set-up - 1) a player on each post (normally the smallest players or weakest in the air). 2) Four players in a line 4 or 5 yards out from the goal line. 3) Two more players approximately 9 years from the goal line. 4) One forward comes to 25 yards out closest to the kicker. 5) The other forward stays central and high up the field to occupy two defenders. All clearances should be out diagonally away from the goal to the side where the forward has dropped to 25 yards out.

Zonal Corners - Out-swinging Corner kick. The set-up above is for teams playing 11v11 defending a corner by setting up zonally (not man to man marking). An out-swinging corner kick is when a player is crossing the ball with the inside of the foot that will bend the ball away from the goal. On the left side of the field (as looking at it on the diagram), it will be a left footed kick. On the right side of the field , it will be a right footed kick. Set-up - 1) a player on back post (normally the smallest players or weakest in the air). 2) Four players in a line 4 or 5 yards out from the goal line. 3) Two more players approximately 9 years from the goal line. 4) The extra player from the post comes to the edge of the penalty area 5) One forward comes to 25 yards out closest to the kicker. 6) The other forward stays central and high up the field to occupy two defenders. All clearances should be out diagonally away from the goal to the side where the forward has dropped to 25 yards out.

Man to man marking on corner kicks - 1) Players on each post 2) Keep two forwards up the field to occupy three defenders most teams will keep an extra player back 3) Every body else matches up man to man 4) Try to match up based on size of players or strength of heading ability 5) If they send an extra player forward, then that forward will track them back or you can have one of the players off the post mark them. Any clearances should be towards the side the ball came from where a forward for your team should be (see diagram above).

Notes Man to man marking on corner kicks Variations 1) 2)

If it is out-swinging, then you can take a player off the near post and have them as an extra player in the middle or at the front of the six yard area (goal area). If the other team plays a short corner, the player marking the 2nd attacker who goes to take the corner with the kicker follows their player and the player on the near post also goes to assist. Do not send out only one player as they will be in a 2v1 and can create a shooting opportunity. Notes for Zonal Corners

1) If the other team plays a short corner, then the players on the near post and front of the six yard box (goal area) will go out to defend to create a 2v2. A player from the penalty spot or edge of the penalty area can fill in if necessary.
