Closing date for Reception Applications (Borough and School)
As we are approaching Christmas, I would like to say a big thank you to everyone who has worked tirelessly to make this school a fantastic place to learn and work in. Our pupils are the pride of our school. Their hard work, wonderful behaviour and fantastic achievements make this school a truly wonderful place. Our staff have been inspirational and caring in guiding our children, sharing knowledge. They have been great role models in promoting our Catholic values. Governors of the school have shown their commitment and expertise in leading and challenging the school towards excellence. FOSPA and all volunteers have generously given their time. They ran many fund raising events and supported the school with considerable donations in purchasing many additional resources for our pupils. Parents and families as always have been very supportive of all we do at St Patrick’s making it very easy to maintain excellent home-school working relationships. Thank you to the children that give up some of their lunchtime to help in school; lunchtime assistants, corridor monitors, lunchtime helpers, library helpers and our Year 6 play leaders. Thank you all for your very valuable contributions. May God shine His light upon us all as we celebrate the birth of Christ the King. May you and your loved ones have a blessed and Holy Christmas.
Gospel: The angel came to Mary and said, “Peace be with you. The Lord is with you and has greatly blessed you.” Mary was deeply troubled by the angel’s message. The angel said to her, “Don’t be afraid Mary. God has been gracious to you. You will become pregnant and give birth to a Son and you will name him Jesus” Mary said to the angel, “How can this be?” The angel answered, “The Holy Spirit will come upon you and God’s power will rest upon you. For there is nothing that God cannot do.” “I am the Lord’s servant,” said Mary. “May it happen to me as you have said.” The second Advent figure is Mary. We think of her life from the Annunciation of the angel telling her that she was to be the mother of the Lord to the arrival at Bethlehem, where Jesus was born. Mary can teach us how to welcome Jesus into our hearts and lives. Mary’s vocation was unique to be the Mother of God, which was to bring Jesus, the Son of God, into the world. The vocation of each one of us is also unique: we aim to bring Jesus and his love into our world. Mary’s response was instant and generous. Please take time to look at the school website within the Parents tab in the Religion in School section where you will find lots of wonderful photos and activities that have taken place in school in preparation for Christmas.
Parent/Teacher Consultation Meetings: These will take place, during the day, in the week beginning 16th January 2017. On the 6th January 2017 a letter will be sent home for you to choose a preferred time on the day indicated for your child's class. Whilst every effort has been made to co-ordinate with classes where there are siblings, sometimes this cannot be done in all cases. If times/dates are difficult for you please contact your childs' class teacher(s) to arrange a mutually convenient time. Thank you all for your continued support. Nativity: Last week, Classes 1L and 1N presented their Nativity to the whole school and to their parents. The songs were beautifully sung, lines remembered and clearly spoken. The children presented the story of Jesus’ birth with such joy and excitement. It was truly spectacular. Well done to everyone involved in putting the Nativity together. We are very proud of the work that the children have done. Thank you to our families for attending. Nursery children presented their Nativity story to their parents on Monday. The children sang beautifully and remembered all their lines. Well done to all the children and the Nursery staff and parents for attending. Holidays during term time: A reminder that holidays taken during term time will not be authorised by the school. Any unauthorised absence will result in a Fixed Penalty Notice being issued by the borough. School finishes on Wednesday 21st December for the Christmas holidays and re-opens on Thursday 5th January for the children. Our EWO will be looking into any absence that is taken in the week leading up to the holidays and the week that we return. Choir: On the evening of Thursday 8th December, after a full morning of rehearsals, the choir sang at the Civic Carol Concert which was held in the Walthamstow Assembly Hall. We would like to say a big thank you to all the members of the choir and Mrs Palmer. The choir sang beautifully and were a credit to the school and their families. The choir also sang at Selbourne Walk on the morning of Wednesday 14th December and then performed at the FOSPA Christmas Fayre in the afternoon. Well done to all of them. FOSPA Feed: Thank you to all the parents and staff of St Patrick’s who helped out at last Friday’s Christmas Discos. The response from the children was very positive and that the discos were a complete success - so thank you for your help and support. On Wednesday we held a very successful Christmas Fayre in the school hall. A big thank you to all of those who attended and helped make it a success. A special thank you to those who provided cakes for sale - there were some seriously impressive home made contributions that made the cake stall extremely successful. A big thank you also to all volunteers who helped in the preparation and clearing up. The Governors would like to thank FOSPA for all the work they put into hosting these lovely events for the children and parents. Attached is a special FOSPA Thank You newsletter. Spare Uniform: We are running very low on socks and underwear for the younger children. If you have any spare ones, could you drop them into the school office. PE Kits: Please ensure that PE kits are taken home so they can be washed over the Christmas holidays.
KS2 Book Bags: Since September 2016 the KS2 bag has been a compulsory part of the school uniform for children in Years 3, 4, 5 and 6. Attendance/Punctuality Certificates Week: 5th December 2016 Attendance: Classes 2J and 3S Punctuality: Classes RH and 3S Dinner Money: Please ensure that all accounts are paid up-to-date. Dinner money needs to be paid in advance and not be in arrears. If your child wishes to change to packed lunch/school dinners, please send in a letter on the first day of term. Dinner money for next term: 5th January 2017 to 10th February 2017: £59.40 (£2.20 per day, £11.00 per week) Scooters/Bikes: A reminder that scooters and bikes need to be taken home each evening and at weekends. They should not be left on the school premises as in the past they have been stolen. Please ensure that bikes/scooters are not left in the playground over the Christmas holidays. The school is not responsible for the safety of scooters/bikes that are left in the playground overnight.
Library Volunteer: St Patrick’s Primary School are looking for someone to assist in the school library while the children choose their books each week. We are looking for someone who is passionate about reading and can convey the love for books to our children. We need someone who can inspire and enthuse children to explore the world of books. If you can commit to giving your time on Mon-Fri 12:00-1:00 and are willing to share your love for reading, then please contact the school office at 02085094321 and arrange a meeting with Catherine Culbert who will be able to tell you more about the role. We look forward to hearing from you. Midday Assistants/Kitchen Assistants: We are looking for parents/carers who would like to be placed on zero hour contracts to cover occasional absence for either Midday Assistant or Kitchen Assistant. If you are interested, please see Mrs Duffy.
Christmas Jumper Day: The children dressed in their Christmas jumpers today and looked spectacular. Well done to everyone. The money raised today will go to the Brentwood Children’s Catholic Society. BCCS have been supporting children and families since 1984 and do not receive any national, local or diocesan funding of any kind. The primary focus of their work is to provide an early intervention service with children, young people and families. Free School Meals: Families on a low income or those who are receiving certain benefits may be entitled to free school meals. You can quickly check if your children are entitled to free meals by visiting http://www.fsm.lgfl.net/ and completing a few details. Although all children in Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 are entitled to receive free meals as a result of a government initiative, it is important for all parents to test whether they would be eligible for free school meals if this scheme did not exist. This is because where parents are shown to be eligible, schools can claim extra government funds to improve the school’s resources and provide a better service to children. If you have any questions or need further assistance, please contact Mrs Williams in the school office. Prayer: Dear God, Thank you for the story of Saint Nicholas, who brought gifts to rescue a family from poverty and unhappiness. May our Christmas gifts bring help and joy to everyone, and may we be rich in faith and love. Amen.
