STAGGERING … Real Estate Industry Make Up 1/5 of Canada’s GDP This statistic that the Real Estate Industry makes up 1/5 of Canada’s GDP (and that 1/5 holds across BC too) comes directly from Statistics Canada and it ‘breaks down as 12.2 Billion in revenues directly generated by the Real Estate & Construction industry and 10.7 Billion in indirect revenues, such as industries that rely on Real Estate’. These indirect industries would include skilled trades, engineers, accountants, lawyers, mortgage/financial experts and Real Estate Professionals. It doesn’t seem that long ago that our Provincial economy was heavily reliant on forestry and natural resources! With all the new Government policies in place, as well as the current market slow down it’s only a matter of time before other industries in our economy feel the pinch. The most startling impact could end up being the fall in Government revenues from the development/real estate industries. These revenues include things Property Purchase Tax, GST, PST and Property Taxes which currently (2017) netted the government a whopping 6.6 Billion dollars.
