Stark State College Akron Stark State College Akron is being developed through a partnership with the College, City of Akron, County of Summit, State of Ohio and Greater Akron Chamber. Location Stark State College Akron campus will be located on 11 acres of property along Route 8 at the Perkins Street exit, with access from East Market Street. High-Demand Career Programs Stark State College offers applied technology programs in information technology, health care, advanced manufacturing and other careers in high demand in the region. Additionally, the College has programs in business, human and social services, education and more. Funding The State of Ohio is providing $6.5 million in capital funding for the project, including $500,000 in community capital funds, requested for the project by the Greater Akron Chamber and approved by the General Assembly. Stark State’s Board has set aside $5 million in college reserves to fund the Akron project. Career Development The College is currently working with Conexus/Ohio Means Jobs on new educational and training pathways to prepare underserved residents for information technology openings in the region.
Community Needs Stark State has already been serving the needs of Akron and Summit County students and businesses for decades, with programs such as Dental Hygiene, funded by the Akron Dental Society and GAR Foundation, and the FirstEnergy Lineworker and Substation Technician programs. The 50,000 square- foot campus facility will take approximately two years to complete and will provide plentiful parking, a convenient downtown location and have public transportation access. Property Purchase Subject to approval by Stark State’s Board of Trustees and Akron City Council, the College will pay $47,469 each year for 20 years, for a total purchase price of $949,380 for the city-owned property.
