Stories Jesus Told – RSVP (page 1) DISCUSSION QUESTIONS: SUGGESTED CONTEMPLATIVE DISCUSSION MODEL: What are you learning about God from this story? What are you learning about yourself from the story? What questions does this story bring up for you? What is God doing in your heart lately? What things do you feel are getting in the way from what God wants to do in you? What is the biggest thing causing you concern these days? (Something to pray about)

ORIGINAL DISCUSSION MODEL (pick 4-5 for discussion) Have you ever RSVP’d to an event and then didn’t show? Or, have you ever invited people to an event and had no shows? Read the stories from Luke 14:16-24 & Matthew 22:1-14 and have the group make observations/comments as you read through.

Stories Jesus Told – RSVP (page 2) Why do you think the invited guests chose not to come to the banquet? What can Christians learn from their no-show? How do you think this story struck the Pharisees as Jesus told it? Why do you think Jesus chose the new invitees he did to fill the banquet? Why not just more of the same? How are you distracted from God in life? Why does the host deal so harshly with the attendee without a wedding garment? In what ways do you think heaven will be like the banquet Jesus described? How are you inviting others to attend the banquet?

Leader’s Guide: RSVP Luke 14:16-24 & Matthew 22:1-14 Sometimes a story is the only way to understand. Stories break through when facts, principles and creeds cannot. A story can help us understand things that cannot be understood by mere instruction - things like God, love, the world, or ourselves. We lose ourselves in stories, and every once in a while, we find ourselves – especially in The Stories Jesus Told.
