PARENT-SCHOOL PARTNERSHIP FOR STUDENT ACHIEVEMENT In 2007 we piloted a new programme to raise academic achievement called Academic Counselling. This programme had a significant effect on the progress of our students and their overall achievement. Thus we have continued with this programme since then. The programme involves every student developing a long term (5 year) Personal Education Plan and a medium term (1 year) Personal Educational Plan (PEP). This plan will contain goals, course plans and academic targets. Each student will be interviewed during the year by their academic counsellor, usually their Dean, to help develop and monitor the PEP. Part of this programme involves strengthening the partnership and improving communication between home and school. An important aspect of this is the parentteacher-student interview. Over the last five years we have been delighted that an average of 75% of our parents came to interviews. The feedback from all has been enthusiastically positive. Many parents have continued contact during the year with their child’s form teacher. We are especially keen to meet the parents of Year 9 students but encourage all parents to attend and are looking forward to meeting you again. This year we will be holding the interviews in Week 1, Term 2 on 23 and 24 April. We request that all parents, and their son or daughter, take part in this important meeting about their child’s academic plans and progress. A letter was posted home in the week of 16 March which will explain the process in more detail. Please read it carefully. Your child’s form teacher will also be contacting you about confirming your interview time. We look forward to meeting with you and your child.

CORRECTION TO NEWSLETTER Our apologies to Alex Kwak (13PGL) whose name was

STUDENT OPPORTUNITY Massey High School are delighted to announce that we are launching our next, exciting leadership program which offers students the opportunity to plan, fund and ultimately lead their own three week long expedition to Ecuador & Galapagos in December 2016. This program will be managed by World Challenge, a pioneering educational organisation with 28 years of experience in delivering personal development expeditions for students. The expedition to Ecuador & Galapagos is preceded by a training and preparation program, during which students play a major role in planning their itinerary, which will include project work in a local community and a challenging trek. Students are also supported in setting and achieving individual and team fundraising goals to help cover the cost of the expedition program. We would like to invite you and your son or daughter to a presentation delivered by a member of the World Challenge team who will discuss the benefits of the program, the fundraising support and safety back-up they provide, and how they deliver a fun, rewarding, and safe experience. Please RSVP to Miss Swan via e-mail: [email protected] Date: Wednesday 22nd April Time: 6.30 pm – 7.15pm Venue: Massey High School

Massey High School students participated in Polyfest 2015 at the Manukau Sports Bowl March 18 – 21. This is an annual event that gives Auckland school communities the opportunity to celebrate our diverse mix of cultures. We were proud to, once again, be able to send our Cultural Groups to participate in this fourday event. All groups performed wonderfully and represented Massey High School with pride, showing their pride in both their school and culture. This year marked the first year where Diversity section had their very own stage. The Tuvaluan group always represent Massey with pride and performed beautifully on their exclusive stage. The school would like to congratulate all the students who participated and thank the families, friends, teachers and tutors involved. Watch out for Cultural achievements throughout the year.
