Studley Shines Reporters: Ella Cummings-Major, Carter Haywood, Eve Matthews and Sofia Rowe Yr7 Transformation in the English Department: By day E6 is an English classroom, however, on Opening Evening, E6 underwent a rapid transformation to a ‘Live News Room’. Some students from Year 7 had the chance to capture Studley’s Opening Evening by ‘live’ reporting on the events from around the school. This is what they have written… Studley was a hive of activity as it opened its doors to possible new Year 6 pupils, parents and carers from across our community. The evening was for parents/carers with pupils currently in Year 6 who wanted to have a look round and to consider joining our Year 7 in September 2015. Our prefects acted as school guides, as the staff and students welcomed all into their classrooms. Around the school, students and teachers worked together to “showcase” Studley High School. Here is a list of some of the amazing things we saw: Experiments galore in the Science Department. Do you know what happens if you put a tube of sweet Mentos into a fizzy drink? A volcano of fizz! In Maths, there were ‘numerous’ of games going on involving multiplication and fractions. Amazing smells filled the air as chocolate cookies were cooking in the Food Tech rooms. In the Language department, you could go shopping, with a variety of clothes, hats etc to try on: Oh là là

In English, as well as the newsroom, there were many activities going on featuring good old Will himself, including casting Taming of the Shrew, as well as two members of Mrs Dyde’s class acted out Kate and Petruchio’s tempestuous first meeting. We had live coverage across the whole school with IPads to take photos and film. We felt important as we wore lanyards with “Press” on them. Eve recalled last year, when she looked round herself for the first time: “I saw so many smiling faces; I could not believe that this year, I was part of the school for real.” She continued, “I felt an enormous sense of pride.” Sofia said, “It was great to explore all the school and met other teachers and students you do not see on a daily basis.” I would like to congratulate Ella, Carter, Eve and Sofia for not only their excellent work on the night, but also putting together this news article in their lunch times. (Mrs Evans, Department of English).
