18” x 18” square of batik fabric—a piece with some color variation is good but avoid batiks that have a distinct pattern. Bring several threads in colors that you like with your background fabric. These should be contrasting threads rather than matching threads. You want your stitching to show up. If you have heavier threads (30 wt., 20 wt., or 12 wt.), bring those too. Heavier threads will make your stitching even more distinct. Any kind of thread (polyester, cotton, rayon, etc.) is fine. If you have lots of thread, bring it! If you don’t have lots of thread, bring what you have. Bring some yarns or cording for couching. These can be metallic yarns, eyelash yarns, #8 pearl cottons, baby rickrack, ribbons, etc. Think texture in colors that look good on your background fabric. These can be leftovers from needlepoint, knitting, etc. You just need an 18” length of each. A sewing machine that has a variety of decorative stitches. Please bring your manual, cord and foot pedal. You will need a fresh size #100 topstitch or metallic needle. Please bring all of your available feet for your sewing machine. We will be couching a variety of materials and will determine which of your feet will work the best. Bring fabric scissors. There will be a $3 charge for a finishing kit that will be provided in class. Bring an embroidery hoop as well as any embroidery threads and or #8 pearl cottons in complementary colors to your background fabric that you have. If you use a thimble, please bring it. Please purchase a copy of Stupendous Stitching by Carol Ann Waugh. These are available at 20% off at The Quilted Fox. If you have any questions, don’t hesitate to call me or stop in at The Quilted Fox (314993-1181). I usually work Mondays and Thursdays.
