REVISED (FEWER) Terms, people and events for which you should be prepared to identify and give the importance:
Maccabean Revolt Babylonian Exile Passover YHWH Midrash Torah Rashi Sadducees Zaddik Ghettos Sabbath
Documentary hypothesis Hellenistic Judaism Diaspora Second Commonwealth Mishnah Logos Jewish Enlightenment Pharisees Kabbalah Reform Judaism Conservative Judaism
Temple Mount Moses Septuagint Hanukkah Rabbi Judah Rabbi Covenant Essenes Hasidism Pogrom Sukkoth
Prophets Abraham and Sarah Menorah Tanakh Talmud Zionism Moses Maimonides Zealots Moses Mendelssohn Holocaust Orthodox Judaism
Note that some terms overlap (i.e.: one cannot properly identify the Talmud without also identifying the Mishnah, or the Shema without Tefillin, or the Holocaust without pogroms, Zionism, or Abraham and Sarah without the covenant, or Hanukkah without the menorah and the Maccabean revolt, and so on). This is OK. Making these connections is what this is all about. Moreover, it shows that the list is less daunting as one might think at first glance. Should you wish to go deeper in understanding on any one of the terms above, below you will find a list – mostly online – of sources that should be helpful. This is merely additional sources and you are not required to consult them.
