EMU SOFTBALL CAMP STAFF Karen Baird Head Coach Entering her 11th season at the helm of Eastern Michigan University softball, head coach Karen Baird has transformed a program that won only six games in her first season to capturing a Mid-American Conference West Division and Tournament title in 2007. Coach Karen Baird returns to the team after having spent the 2010 season on maternity leave. The 2009 season was marked by a 7-game improvement over the previous season record, including a no-hitter vs. Albany and a 3-2 win over #17 Louisville in the South Florida Tournament. The 2009 season also saw Jennifer Scherer break the EMU Single-Season (14) and Career (36) Home Run Records. The previous records were 13 singleseason and 24 career. The 2009 team earned several post-season honors. Baird, the 2007 MAC Coach of the Year, hit the 100-win plateau as the Eagle head coach during the 2008 season. With a 1-0 win against Bucknell (2-16-08), Baird won her 100th game as the Eastern Michigan head coach. Baird also won the 200th game of her 11-year coaching career during 2008, defeating San Diego (229-08), 1-0. Baird’s teams have also performed consistently in the classroom, finishing in the top 20 in Grade Point Average the past six seasons.

Eric Oakley Assistant Coach Eric Oakley begins his sixth season with the Eastern Michigan University softball team, having spent the 2010 season as Interim Head Coach. The 2010 season resulted in a 19-30-1 record for the Eagles, as well as some high individual honors for EMU players. For the 2010-11 season, Oakley will continue as the pitching and catching coach, as well as work with the outfielders. He also serves as recruiting coordinator for the Eagles and organizes the camps and clinics. During the season Oakley also organizes local clinics throughout metro-Detroit. Prior to joining the Eastern Michigan staff, Oakley, an EMU graduate, had been coaching softball at various levels for over 15 years throughout the MetroDetroit area. His travel teams have had both regional and national success and have produced players for all collegiate levels. He was a member of the 2007 MAC Tournament Champions staff at EMU.

Pat Brower Pat has been known as one of the top pitching instructor in the state of Michigan for over 20 years He has instructed many NCAA Division I, II, and III Softball pitchers and has been a great supporter of EMU Softball.
