2013 is drawing to a close which means that 2014 is just around the corner. A QUARTERLY NEWSLETTER PROVIDING THE LATEST NEWS AND HIGHLIGHTS AT ARROW LEADERSHIP

Throughout the many programs and activities offered this year by Arrow Leadership, we have been privileged to see God developing leaders for increasing influence in places where he has called them to serve – the church, not for profit and the business sectors. Continuing our focus on developing leaders in 2014, it gives me delight to share with you one event that is planned for next year. Arrow Leadership and Christian Management Australia (CMA) are committed to training and equipping Christian leaders throughout Australia. To this end, on 2-4 June 2014, at Hilton on the Park Melbourne, our organisations will strategically align to host our conferences. Formerly known as the Cre8 Conference, the Arrow Leadership Conference, equipping business leaders to integrate faith, work and service, has secured internationally renowned Business as Mission influencer Mats Tunehag as its keynote speaker. Mats Tunehag is the Lausanne representative of Business as Mission Group and was Co-convenor of the Business as Mission World Congress held in Thailand in April 2013.

2013

CMA, with its focus on developing leaders in governance and leaders of not for profit organisations, will once again provide a wide range of plenary and workshop sessions over their two day conference. Delegates of both conferences will have an amazing opportunity to discover ways to intentionally and strategically missionalise their business, as well as ways to provide outstanding leadership in the board room or throughout not for profit organisations. Arrow Leadership and CMA recognise our unique yet distinctly complementary contribution to the leadership training and equipping space in Australia. The coming together of these conferences will provide an exceptional three day training event for Christian men and women, whether they serve in the profit or not for profit sectors as CEOs, Board Members, Managers or Business Owners. We are only weeks away from the day when we celebrate the coming of our Saviour Jesus. May you recognise and experience his fresh and vibrant gift this Christmas season. Liam Glover Executive Director

Arrow Leadership has been working collaboratively with World Vision Australia and the Centre for Public Christianity on a three-day conference called RE:THINKING A Public Faith, 18-20 March 2014 in Sydney The program is built around renowned Yale Theologian Miroslav Volf who is joined by a select group of excellent thinkers, including Tim Costello, Mark Scott, John Dickson, Mark Sayers, Michael Spence, Melinda Tankard Reist and Justine Toh. Founding Director for the Yale Centre for Faith and Culture, Professor Miroslav Volf is the Henry B. Wright Professor of Systematic Theology at Yale Divinity School. He has written more than 15 books, including Exclusion and Embrace (1996) and A Public Faith (2011). Volf has made a profound contribution to the notion that Christian faith not only cannot remain private but also has much to contribute to the common good in an increasingly pluralistic and multi-faith society. As a guide to people of faith who must take their place in the public square, Volf adds valued and deep thinking to this much–needed conversation. “... The followers of Jesus Christ are sent into the world as he was sent, to love friends and enemies, co-religionists and infidels, and to rejoice in everything that is true, good, and beautiful wherever they encounter it.” Miroslav Volf, A Public Faith To register or for more information please visit www.rethinking.net.au. Who at

Testimony “As I reach the half waypoint of this amazing two year leadership development journey. I have been stretched and strengthened. I have been encouraged and empowered. I have been shown compassion and care. I have been equipped to lead more like Jesus and more to Jesus. On beginning this journey I questioned why I was in ministry, I lacked confidence in my abilities. Arrow has taught me how to lead from my strengths, to embrace the gifts and talents God has blessed me with. Half way through and I have more confidence in my leadership and know I am built for ministry.” Shey Hall Student of Emerging Leaders Program Arrow 12

Who’s Who at Arrow Arrow Leadership’s programs and activities would not be possible without the administrative support of two fantastic ladies – Susan Herbert and Liesel Houghton. Liam, Julian and Paul wish to take this opportunity to acknowledge the great investment that Susan and Liesel make and thought you might be interested to hear a little more about them. Susan joined Arrow in 2011 bringing with her 20 years of executive administrative experience in a range of industries. As well as loving getting to know the Arrow participants she enjoys reading (especially thrillers!), watching BBC crime shows and playing with her niece’s Cavoodle. Susan loves travelling and her dream is to go on a cruise to Alaska and catch the Rocky Mountaineer train through Canada. She would also love to someday be able to play the Forrest Gump soundtrack on the piano. Matthew 6:33 is captivating Susan at the moment. Liesel joined Arrow in 2013 bringing with her much experience in church administration, event management and youth and young adult ministries. She has organised and attended many large camps.
Liesel has qualifications in patisserie and enjoys anything creative. She loves being active by participating in a range of water sports and netball (including umpiring). Liesel loves cooking (and eating) good food, spending time with family and friends, and exploring new cities and countries.
