On any given day, about 6,000 individuals experience homelessness in Maricopa County. Many are experiencing homelessness for the first time possibly due to a job loss; home foreclosure; medical bills, a variety of circumstances. Others individuals have been homeless for a year or more; or multiple periods (chronic); and have a disability. Chronically homeless individuals, about 20% of the homeless population, usually have another a condition/conditions that prevent them from ending their homelessness permanently, physical disability, untreated mental health, substance abuse.
