Painting the Town Red – and Orange, and Yellow, and Green and Blue American Art is to be showcased throughout New York City this Summer Possible locations include: Times Square, Central Park, and your local subway platform After the brutal winter of 2013-14, many New Yorkers cannot wait to get outside and enjoy summer. And this year, there will be quite the surprise waiting for them. Five museums- The Los Angles County Museum of Art, The Art Institute of Chicago, The Dallas Museum of Art, the National Gallery of Art (in Washington, D.C.) and the Whitney in New York, have joined forces with the Outdoor Advertising Association of America and have given birth to possibly one of the coolest campaigns ever imagined – Art Everywhere. This program will display images from favorite American artists, including the works of Georgia O’Keeffe, Andy Warhol, and Roy Lichtenstein, to name a few. This creative project is loosely based off an

SUMMER 2014
Victorian Gardens Simpler Times in Central Park Move over Coney Island! From May 24th to September 8th of this year, The Victorian Gardens, an amusement park near and within the Central Park Ice Rink, will be open for business. This classically styled playground is geared towards the under 12 crowd, but thankfully, the rides can accommodate children of all ages. Names for the rides include the Aeromax, a high-riding experience, Samba Balloon, a spinning hot air balloon, and the Mini Mouse- a small rollercoaster designed for beginners. Each of these is handcrafted, along with every other ride, to mesh with the historic atmosphere of Central Park. The bright colors and whimsical illustrations on the rides compliment the zany characters on the ground. This classic amusement park has all the standard carnival folk on display – magicians, jugglers, cowboys, and even giant stuffed mice! All those and many more are sure to keep your child’s attention while you sneak off to one of the many food and drink stands to grab some funnel cake or a pint of ale!
Bites in Brooklyn: Red Hook Ball Field If you want to escape the tourist trap that is Manhattan in the summer, look no further than Red Hook, Brooklyn. Easily accessible by either the F or G trains, this sweet spot is right off the Brooklyn-Battery Tunnel Road. In the warmer months, it becomes a “foodie” paradise- dozens of food trucks line up in the Red Hook Ball Field and it becomes a blend of the best Latin
from El Salvador. The meat, usually pork, is packed in with black beans and cheese inside a corn tortilla. The result is so wonderful, that “El Olomega,” the original pupusa food truck, has received past awards for their savory snack. This “little Latin America” in the heart of Brooklyn is truly an underrated gem, and a mustsee this summer.
small bites New York has to offer, and it’s only getting better. The organization's executive director, Cesar Fuentes, is excited about the upcoming season, “We want to start enrolling the new generation of Red Hook Food Vendors.” For those not familiar with the transcendental experience one has when eating a pupusa let me explain.

Central Park is an iconic sea of green nestled in the middle of steel and concrete. It is by far, the most famous park in Manhattan. And as many of us New Yorkers know, during a warm summer day, it feels like the entire city has decided to lounge about on the Great Lawn. So where can you find a quiet (for New York) square of nature on this island? Here are my three favorites:
1. The Highline Chelsea This former railroad was transformed into an elevated park that spans from 30th to 10th Ave on Manhattan’s West side. Various flowers and vegetation grow among the tracks- a true mix of nature and industry.

2. Greenacre Park 51 Street A 25-foot Waterfall in Midtown? Yes, please. This small park looks like it belongs in a rainforest, not the middle of Manhattan (Corner of 51st and 3rd)

For fans of classical literature and drama, look no further than Central Park. Tickets are free, but require booking in advance. Starting in June, you can catch “Much Ado about Nothing”
