USTA Eastern Junior Team Tennis – Summer Section Championships 2016 Summer Championship Facts: 12/14/18 & Under Divisions 

Each individual team is required to have one coach (18 or older) on court at all times. Only one designated coach at a time is allowed on court. All coaches are to report to the tournament desk prior to the start of match play. Only authorized coaches will be permitted on court.



On court coaches are required to have a current background check as per USTA Eastern requirements.



Awards will be presented to the winning and runner-up teams in each division. Sportsmanship awards will be presented –One boy and one girl in each division.



T-shirts will be given to all individuals playing in the USTA Eastern Junior Team Tennis Sectiona Championships.



There may be a certified trainer to assist with athletic injuries on site. Also, please allow enough time for treatment prior to the tournament desk calling your match.



There will be certified roving umpires present at the championship. Roving umpires may be positioned inside the fenced areas and will interfere with play as little as possible. Players should be encouraged to play tennis without the need for umpires. In the case of disputed calls and upon request of the player, a roving umpire may be supplied to oversee the match.



Teams should be prepared for the following: o Matches being delayed o Waiting on site for further instructions o Postponed matches o Evening play



All scoring formats are determined by the USTA Eastern Section but may be altered at the tournament director’s discretion depending on facility size, championship play duration and weather conditions.



Requirements listed in “The Sectional Rules and Guidelines Championship Track” (unless stated different) are required to be satisfied by teams, players, and coaches in order to be able to participate in the championship. Failure to do so may result in disqualification from eligibility.



Format (in this order):  One set of boys’ doubles  One set of girls’ doubles  One set of boys’ singles  One set of girls’ singles  One set of mixed doubles



USTA Rules and regulations will be enforced during the championship.



Match play is continuous round-robin format.



Prior to the start of a Championship Event a team is expected to have a minimum of 4 eligible players (2 boys/2 girls) available to play. In the event a team is short a boy then the boy’s doubles will be defaulted. In the event a team is short a girl then the girl’s doubles will be defaulted. The mixed doubles match may not be defaulted.



Each team must play at least 4 players (2 boys/2 girls) during each match/round.



No player may play 3 sets during an individual round.



Only an authorized adult will be permitted to coach on changeovers. In no event is coaching permitted during a set or match tiebreak



All match lineups must be submitted to the tournament desk by the team coach/manager at least 15 minutes prior to the start of the match. Penalties will be enforced at the tournament director’s discretion.



Scorecards must be submitted at end of each round. Both coaches need to report to the tournament desk after the match is over so the tournament desk can review the scorecard for accuracy and signatures. New scorecards will be issued.



Warm- Up Time- In JTT you warm-up with your teammates prior to the start of match play. All players are allowed a ten minute warm-up. Once play has begun a three minute warm-up is allowed between sets.



In the case of a service let, that particular service shall not count, and the server shall serve again.



NO substitutions may be made in an individual match after the lineup has been presented, except for injury to, or illness of a player prior to the start of such match. Substitutions are line substitutions and the lineup shall remain the same. If the substitution is made during the warm-up the substitute is entitled to a three minute warm-up.



Matches will consist of the first to six (6) games using no-ad scoring. A 9 point tiebreak will be played at five (5) games all (4 team draw or less). Matches will consist of first to four (4) games using no-ad scoring. A nine point tiebreak will be played at three(3) games all(5 or 6 team draw)



Cumulative game scoring will determine the overall divisional champion. If at the end of competition a tie results for any position, the results of their head-to-head competition will determine order of finish.



If a tie results, at the completion of any individual head to head round the designated coach/manager will name the girl and boy who will play a 10 point (win by two) mixed doubles tiebreak to decide the round winner. (This tie-breaker will not be counted towards the total overall game score).



Default Rules – USTA lateness default rules will be used. The default time begins when team match is announced by the tournament desk. For example: If a player is only slated to play the mixed doubles and is not present when mixed doubles is ready to begin the team forfeits mixed doubles. All players must be present within 15 minutes of the announcement from the tournament desk that the match is to be played.



If a team defaults an entire team match for any reason during the round robin, then all matches of that team played or to be played shall be null and void. If all teams in contention for the Championship have already played the defaulting team in good faith, the matches stand as played. The section may impose sanctions or penalties on said team.



If the section does not have a regulation in place to address an issue and there is a National Regulation on that issue, the Section shall follow the National Regulation. All other matters will be left to interpretation by the tournament director.
