Dear Parents, The fifth graders had a busy year learning new math skills. Mastery of all these skills is extremely important in order to develop a solid math foundation. The sixth grade math program will add onto these fifth grade skills, so any time spent learning or reinforcing these concepts will be very beneficial for your child. Each year builds upon the previous year’s skills in math. Student mastery of the basic math skills is as important to success in future mathematical procedures and reasoning as learning the alphabet is to reading and writing. This is why we have created a math packet for your child to complete this summer. On the Holy Spirit School website, click on the Student Resources tab. Please find the appropriate packet for your child’s grade and click on it. Once you have opened the packet, you can print it. Each student should complete lessons 1-10, and 10 word problems. You will have to print a “face” for each lesson, in other words 10 faces total. We suggest keeping the entire packet in a folder or binder so it can all be handed in together in the fall. Students should return their math packets to their middle school math teacher on September 11, 2015. Each lesson will be worth a homework grade (10 points) and will be part of the first quarter marking period. Please follow all directions carefully on each sheet. All work must be shown, and calculators should not be used. Students should use loose leaf to work out problems and place the final answer in the space provided directly on the sheet. Please attach all work to the “face” for each lesson. Students should not wait until the end of the summer to complete this work. Please have your child pace themselves so that sufficient time is given to each problem. If you have any further questions, please feel free to contact Mrs. Hamer or Mrs. Schwartz via email. Happy computations, Sherry Hamer and Corinna Schwartz
