#BethanyBklyn #RevCallahanSaid #WomensConvocation #It’sOurTime!
OUR KNOWN SICK AND SHUT-IN MEMBERS “I was sick and ye visited me…” Matthew 25:36 Beloved,
Words matter. When put together in a meaningful manner, words create a sentence. Sentences, when willingly exchanged between two or more people, can become a conversation. A conversation can lead to change. Conversations ordained by God cause a change that helps both the individuals in dialogue, and crystallizes a kairos moment. Those kairos moments can be the genesis of the manifestations of a movement that help build a people and extend the Lords’ kingdom. Through Sisters in Conversation, women’s convocation has proven this and their self-determined theme “It’s our time.” Their theme was inspired by a conversation ending in Esther 4:14: “For if you remain silent at this time, relief and deliverance for the Jews will arise from another place, but you and your father’s family will perish. And who knows but that you have come to your royal position for such a time as this?” Here at Bethany the voices of women are no longer silenced, reduced or ignored. Rather there is a growing, ground swelling response to the affirmation of women’s leading participation in the empowering vision of God. In a duet, Annie Lennox and Aretha Franklin sang, “Sisters are doing it for themselves.” By God’s grace, the women of Bethany are doing it for themselves and everyone else. Whether it was the delightful brunch on Saturday, or the dynamic preaching today from Rev. Dr. Leslie Callahan, excellence has been the order of the day. Finally, I congratulate Sister Cheryl Lacey as Women’s Ministry Facilitator and her team for their work on this event. Prayerfully, I hope this has planted seeds for the manifestation of our Women’s Ministry. Seminary taught me that theology and ministry are done best when we put voices into conversation. Because your voice matters, now all we need is yours. Let’s keep the conversation going. It’s time. With a Shepherd’s Love,
Pastor Lacey

MORNING SCRIPTURE Esther 4:12-14 (NIV)
S ERMON N OTES
12 When
Esther’s words were reported to Mordecai, 13 he sent back this answer: “Do not think that because you are in the king’s house you alone of all the Jews will escape. 14 For if you remain silent at this time, relief and deliverance for the Jews will arise from another place, but you and your father’s family will perish. And who knows but that you have come to your royal position for such a time as this?”
LITANY Today we celebrate the strength, power, passion, beauty, courage, and faith of women across this world. Made in the image and likeness of our Creator, God chose the woman to lead, support, nourish, and deliver divine glory to the earth. We praise God for the creation of woman. We celebrate women for following the Savior’s example of service. As vessels of life, sometimes they are often overlooked, choosing to relinquish their will, for the uplifting of others. We honor God for endowing the unselfish spirit of service into the heart of the woman. We give reverence to every woman, who like the thoughtful, mindful, and powerful women of scripture continue to defy odds, banish stereotypes, and serve in the face of oppression and tradition. We honor those who were and continue to be abused because of their very existence and call for their healing and liberty. We worship God for the memory our ancestors, mothers, and grandmothers. We celebrate the women of today for the sharing of their gifts, talents, and skills. We celebrate those who are required to be both the matriarch and the patriarch, and those who are strong enough to fight for all equality.
Choral Call to Prayer & Response DWELL IN THE HOUSE
BETTER IS ONE DAY
One thing have I desired of the Lord. One thing have I desired of the Lord. And that will I seek after. That will I seek after. That I may dwell in the house, dwell in the house. That I may dwell in the house, of the Lord.
