Feeding on the Truth Monday Psalm 50. This powerful psalm summons all the earth to serve as a witness against the worshiper as God comes to examine him. There is no way a follower of Christ can read this text and not come under some level of conviction. Is there a specific point of examination from this psalm that caused you to evaluate your heart and seek to be made right by the Lord?

How does the truth of 1 John 1:5-10 comfort you as you lay yourself open before the Lord?

Tuesday Psalm 50:1-6. How is God described in this passage?

Is there a warning for us concerning how we approach God in worship? Does this mean we need to come sheepishly and terrified? How does Hebrews 4:16 teach to come before God? Wednesday The terminology and imagery of Psalm 50:1-6 is not isolated to an Old Testament description of God. Hebrews 12:18-29 uses the power and majesty of God’s presence on Mt. Sinai to argue from the lesser to the greater – “If that scene was terrifying and caused the people to tremble when My message was delivered through Moses, how much more terrifying will it be for those who treat lightly the message that I delivered through My Son.

When I come I will not only shake the mountains, but I will also shake the heavens (12:26).” What is the proper response of the worshiper as given in Hebrews 12:28-29?

Thursday Psalm 50:14-15, 23 gives the heart of proper of worship. What are the marks of a faithful worshiper (1 Thess. 5:17-18; John 4:21-24)?

Friday Psalm 50:7-15. The formalist is confronted. This is the one who views the motions of worship as an accomplishment and not as an expression of their heart. This is the’ checklist worshiper’, “Tell me what to do and I’ll do it.” Worship for this person is a means to an end, instead of being the end and purpose of their life. Instead of being an outflow of their internal affection, this person looks for an external and additional benefit to worship. Worship is not the benefit, but instead the benefit is the self-righteous satisfaction of thinking God must be impressed with my effort and performance. This is so sad. And what inevitably happens is that this type of worshiper begins to despise the times of corporate worship because he sees them as demanding and invasive on his lifestyle, instead of being a wonderful opportunity to express his heartfelt love for the Lord. This potential is in all of us. May God grant the necessary grace to keep us all faithful. Saturday Lord willing, tomorrow we will look to the Lord in Psalm 53.
