SUPPLY LIST Beginning Quilting Wall Sampler about 27”x 42” Summer 2017,

Fall 2017, Spring 2018

We will make 7 traditional blocks to create the wall hanging. The blocks we will make are Rail Fence, Log Cabin, Friendship Star, Flying Geese, Bowtie, Drunkard’s Path and machine appliquéd motif. Fabrics: You need a focus or theme fabric and 4 to 6 coordinating fabrics. Small and medium scale prints are good because not all of our blocks can handle large prints and some fabrics must read as solid. Have in mind what you like, and fabric selection will be part of our first class. If you have fabrics you want to use, bring them and we can see what will work. Focus or theme fabric – 1 1/2 yards The 4 to 6 coordinating fabrics – 1/3 yard each Backing fabric – 1-1/4 yards Do not get batting until we have discussed this in class. You will need your sewing machine in the first class. Supply List: Sewing machine, cleaned and oiled, new #80/12 needle Sewing machine instruction book Basic sewing supplies: Small thread scissors Fabric scissors Rotary ruler 1”x 6”

Rotary ruler 6”x18” or 6”x24” Rotary square ruler 6 1/2” square (We need this so you can square your blocks as we go.) Rotary cutting mat Rotary cutter, new blade Straight pins – the flower head pins are good; not the big yellowhead pins Safety pins for pin basting. No.2 curved basting pins are great—need a minimum of 75 pins, and 100 pins is a safer number. Seam Ripper Roll of Masking Tape Binding clips Purple thang Mettler brand silk-finish cotton thread or Aurifil thread in neutral shade or color that blends with your fabrics. Sewing Machine feet which will be used: - quarter inch foot (Bernina 37 or 57) - open toe embroidery foot (Bernina 20) - free motion quilting foot (Bernina 29) - walking foot (optional) The feet may be borrowed for classroom use You may wish to get quilting gloves when we begin machine quilting. There are several different kinds …see what we discuss and try on in class. We will also use Mary Ellen's Made by Hand lotion.
