ENVISION COURTHOUSE SQUARE where people come together
Sustainability in Courthouse Square Envision Courthouse Square is addressing sustainability in three ways:
Energy
Sustainability Framework
• Envision Courthouse Square is an opportunity for us to rethink how we use energy in our government and community buildings in the planning area.
• A sustainability framework compiles the County’s goals, objectives, and indicators into one consistent framework.
• The study will look at options for reducing energy usage, including: - District energy. - Energy efficiency improvements. - Renewables.
• It is informed by the county’s existing sustainability documents, like the Community Energy Plan and the Storm Water Master Plan.
• Options will be weighed based on the County’s goals of reducing energy costs, improving energy reliability, and “leading by example” in reducing greenhouse gas emissions.
Stormwater Management • The planning effort will also look at improvements to how the study area handles stormwater runoff, the number one source of water pollution in the US. • Options include features like green roofs, rain gardens and permeable pavement to reduce pollutants in stormwater runoff. • Courthouse Square planning effort will establish planning targets for treating polluted stormwater that exceed regulatory requirements and identify treatment methods that demonstrate innovation and provide multiple site benefits.
• This is a tool to help the County keep track of its goals and policies so we can see how they are being addressed in the Courthouse Square planning effort.
