Sutton Coldfield CC Story October 2012

Inside This Issue

View from the Chair The recent joint Awards Evening was the first of its kind and was very well attended with more than 100 players (both Junior and Senior), parents, wives, relatives, social members and Club Officials producing an excellent atmosphere in the Clubhouse. This is definitely to be repeated again in 2013. A big thank you is due to all of the people who donated raffle prizes and of course to those who purchased tickets (£90 towards Club funds was raised on the night). ‘Unlock the Dosh’ was won by Colin Ryan, the butcher who supplies SCCC with its meat for the Friday night BBQ’s.

News Extra – Work Party Despite the dreadful weather, the majority of the ‘end of season’ groundworks have already been carried out. However there are one or two small jobs which still need completing, therefore there will be a working party on th Saturday 20 October from 10am until Noon approximately. If possible, please spare the club a couple of hours of your time to help finish off the season. Refreshments will be provided!

2012 Cricket Synopsis – John Howard Cricket Chairman Saturdays st

The 1 XI were runners-up to Kings Heath by 24 points. An inability to defend good scores on occasion cost us dearly, and a couple of poor fielding performances didn’t help. Dan Childs was a great asset and took a lot of wickets (his contribution off the field was also fantastic) – there were other good st bowling performances from Mark Guest and Aaron Thomason (his first season in the 1 XI included a hat-trick). Jack Smith was top run scorer, aided by Jamie Klapper and it was good to see Lee Thomason develop with a 100 in the last game. Indications are that all players staying for 2013 and Dan is returning for another season. Training was excellent and needs to be repeated in 2013. th The 2nd XI finished 8 in the League, only 1 win away from a top half finish. Adam did well considering difficulties with availability, Sam Sargent bowled very well in spells and needs to st challenge for a 1 XI place. Joe Berry has shown his potential and Jon Sargent showed his ability at times and I hope he will be more consistent next year. Jamie Humpage did well in his first season as nd 2 XI keeper and needs to work on this. It was disappointing that the side tended to give their wickets away! More coaching is available next year so attendance at nets needs improvement. Need nd to look for a mentor to support 2 XI captain and players next season. rd th The 3 XI finished 6 – best result for years - congratulations to Steve for getting sides out, some promising juniors but we need more adults needed to play, support and nurture the lads. There were promising performances from James Lunn, Raoul Ram, Tom Wheeler and Reece Morgan. Consistency of sides would help improve matters.

Sundays There was a great effort from both Andy and Lee to produce sides. The 1st XI won the league with nd some excellent results but next year will be much tougher so we need to work on availability. The 2 XI finished runners-up and did really well. We need to expand the number of playing members for Sunday games and in addition to look at whether we stay in this league.

Sutton Coldfield CC Story Overall Thanks to all of the Captains for their hard work. Thanks also to Colin and Dan for their hard work during what was a difficult season ensuring that games could be played (and to all the others that helped – especially Paul and Sid).

Website Sponsorship – a vital necessity! SCCC is in need of one or more sponsors for 2013 and beyond, to ensure that the proposed developments within the club are a success. Sponsorship deals are available for match ball, shirt, individual match or full Club Sponsorship. It is vital for the future of SCCC that we attract a sponsor. If you know of any individual or company that is interested in becoming an SCCC sponsor, please contact Stuart Russell at: [email protected]

2012/13 What’s in Store? Curry and Quiz Night: Coming soon – a Bulletin announcing all details will be sent shortly!

Annual General Meetings The Club’s Junior Annual General Meeting will take place on Tuesday 6th November 2012 and the Club’s full Annual General Meeting itself will take place on Tuesday 13 November 2012. To ensure that the club moves forward in a positive manner we need nominations from the membership for positions within the Club. All members of the Club are urged to attend the AGM and to play their full part in the running of SCCC. ** All Parents and junior players are invited to attend the full AGM**.

Our new webmaster has requested that all players, whether senior or junior should register on the Play Cricket website. To do this go to: www.play-cricket.com. The SCCC website is being updated and amended over the winter months and will soon have team reports from each SCCC Captain, a round-up of junior results and a new Home Page’, as well as many details of what is happening within the Club for 2013.

Groundworks The SCCC Ground Sub-Committee is delighted to report that despite some very poor weather recently the ground has been put to bed for the winter and the square has been re-seeded where necessary. Work to improve and repair the site screens as necessary will continue throughout the winter months to ensure you can all enjoy your cricket in 2013. It has been struggle (at times) to prepare wickets of a sufficient standard and as you all know we had major problems with the high level of the water table during May and June with flooding for some weeks in front of the scorebox. Let’s hope 2013 is a better summer!

Winter Nets:

SCCC winter nets for Junior players up to 13 years of age will start on Tuesday 8 th. January at Bishop Vesey School indoor facility and will take place from 6-7.30pm. The net sessions for junior members U14 to U17 will commence on Thursday 10th January from 6-8.30pm, with senior nets following on from 8.30pm to 10pm. Further information about all winter sessions and booking forms will be available for juniors in early November. The number of available places is limited so please indicate your interest as early as possible. Andy Wyles from Edgbaston will be helping with the administration and organisation of Friday Junior practice nights, since we believe that redeveloping these sessions can benefit everyone.

The Future: In addition to helping at Winter Nets, Andy will also be available to coach senior players, in particular the second and third elevens on Tuesdays evenings. All players at the club will have the opportunity to benefit from the structure in which SCCC is investing. The standard of cricket can only improve if players participate in the arrangements being put in place for 2013 . As a club, SCCC will be well set to develop a coaching structure which is second to none. The aim is the make SCCC the best Cricket Club in the area with the best facilities, the best management structure, the best coaches and the best players!
