Libby Howell, Fr., Missouri State (Bixby, Okla.)

1000 Free, 1st place – 10:19.63; 500 Free, 1st place – 4:58.43; 200 Free, 1st place – 1:52.31; 800 Free Relay, 1st place – 7:37.73; 400 Free Relay, 2nd place – 3:31.49 Earning the first victories of her career, Howell played a vital part in the Bears’ first program win over the Kansas Jayhawks and South Dakota Coyotes. Howell won every individual event she participated in, starting with the 1000 free where she dominated the race in 10:19.63 - she outswam the runner-up by nearly 14 seconds. Turning up the speed, she finished first in the 200 free (1:52.31) and then again in the 500 free (4:58.43). Serving as the first leg in the 800 free relay, she helped the Bears to victory as the squad combined for a time of 7:37.73. The only second-place finish she earned was in the 400 free relay where she and the Bears finished behind Kansas with a time of 3:31.49.

Samantha Gray, Sr., Little Rock (Cabot, Ark.)

3-Meter Dive – 1st of 12 Divers; Score – 248.35; 1-Meter Dive – 2nd of 14 Divers; Score – 248.35 Gray has continued to impress this season finishing in the top-three in every event she competed in this year. In the Little Rock Invitational, she took a first-place finish in the three-meter diver with a score 248.35, earning a 20-points for the Trojans. In the one-meter diver she registered the same score, a 248.35, enough to earn her a second-place finish and 17 points for Little Rock.

Other Top Performances

Danielle Freeman, Sr., Evansville Senior Danielle Freeman took top marks in both her individual events this weekend at the Indiana Intercollegiate meet at Purdue. She took the 200 freestyle title by over 3 seconds for a final 1:56.24. Additionally, she took another decisive win with a 52.57 100 freestyle. Freeman also anchored the 2nd place 200 Freestyle Relay that clocked in a 1:39.26, her 23.36 split the fastest in the race and over a second faster than the winning individual 50 freestyle time of 24.55.

Tori Fryar, Sr., Little Rock 1000-yard Freestyle – 1st of 15 swimmers; Finish Time – 10:34.58; 500-yard Freestyle – 1st of 21 swimmers; Finals Time – 5:08.84; 200-yard Freestyle Relay – 7th of 16 teams; Finals Time - 1:43.32 (25.80) For the second week in a row, Fryar was able to take a first place finish in the 1000-yard freestyle event. This time going up against 15 swimmers and clocking a time of 10:34.58. She also took a first finish in the 500-yard freestyle event out of 21 swimmers with a time of 5:08.84. In the 200-yard freestyle relay, she helped her team finish seventh out the 16 teams with a leg time of 25.80 and a team finals time of 1:43.32.

Bryn Handley, Sr., Southern Illinois Saluki senior Bryn Handley competed in four event for the Salukis in Saturday’s tri-meet against McKendree and Truman State. Handley won the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1:50.94, to beat Southern’s previous best time of the season in the event by nearly four seconds. Handley won the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 4:56.74. Handley helped the Salukis to wins in both the 200-yard medley relay and the 400-yard freestyle relay. In the 200-medley, Handley’s team won the event with a time of 1:48.85. In the 400-freestyle relay, her team took first with a time of 3:34.70.

Courtney Coverdale, Sr., Evansville This past weekend at the Indiana Intercollegiate, senior Courtney Coverdale took two 2nd place finishes, scoring 255.35 points on 1-Meter and 244.05 on 3-Meter. Ashley Yarbrough, Fr., Missouri State 1-Meter, 1st place – 254.10 points; 3-Meter, 1st place – 292.55 points Claiming boards at the Bears’ double dual, Yarbrough was masterful in her performances against the Kansas Jayhawks and South Dakota Coyotes. She clinched the 1-meter board with a season-best 254.10 points. Proving herself once again against a Power-5 school, she commanded the 3-meter board where she tallied 292.55 points – 43.65 points ahead of the runner-up. Her performance on the 3-meter board landed her in the all-time record books, where she now sits fifth overall in the event. Beibei Ji, So., Southern Illinois Beibei Ji led the Salukis to wins in both diving events in the tri-meet against McKendree and Truman State setting personal bests in both dives in the process. In the three-meter, Ji turned in a score of 315.38 to crush her previous personal best by more than 28 points. In the one-meter, Ji won with a score of 299.77, setting a personal best by more than 29 points. As of the end of the meet on Saturday, she was 20th in the nation in the one-meter dive and 26th in the nation in the three-meter.
