SYC Soccer Committee! Developmental Academy Implementation Plan! ! March, 2012!

1!

Philosophy! ! The SYC Soccer Program strives to provide the optimum development environment for participants of all ages (U6-U19) and of all levels of skill!

! Consistent with the Mission of SYC, the Soccer Program exists to serve the youth of the Springfield/South County community, promoting character development, good sportsmanship, and overall citizenship!

2!

Guiding Principles (1)! ! To serve the youth at all ages, we must adopt age-appropriate environments and techniques for both training and playing! !

Our programs will embrace the tenets of the US Youth Soccer Player Development Model, the USSF/USYSA National Youth Coaching license, and related childhood psychology research!

!

Our Coaches and other program leaders will be trained in and practice ageappropriate coaching techniques. !

!

All coaches and leaders within the program will focus on long term goals for player development (the progression from U6 to U19), and measure success by progress along that path (not the outcomes of competitions)!

!

Training takes priority over playing formal games. Training time should always exceed playing time in any period!

3!

Guiding Principles (2)! ! To serve the youth of our community, we must ensure that no

families fail to participate due to affordability or language/cultural barriers! ! Consistent with the club’s founding construct, and to minimize costs, we will rely upon volunteer community members to staff our programs to the maximum extent possible !

!

We embrace a preference for volunteer Coaches and will actively train, mentor, and assess our volunteer coaches to ensure the highest possible quality of coaching within our program!

!

Paid Coaches, when employed, will be carefully screened and selected by the Commissioner. Compensation for paid Coaches will be constrained to reasonable levels, as determined by the Commissioner!

!

We will make full use of County, Club, and other programs at our disposal to provide financial assistance for program fees for community members in need! 4!

Objectives of the Academy Program! ! Increase the retention SYC families/talent on SYC Soccer teams throughout the age groups!

! Improve the technical development of SYC Soccer participants! ! Improve the competitive performance of SYC Soccer teams in both Travel and Recreational leagues!

! Re-establish SYC as an “elite” club attracting the top local talent!
