Autism Spectrum Disorders: Interventions for Communication and Learning

FACULTY Sylvia Diehl, PhD, CCC-SLP, is a faculty member in the Communication Sciences and Disorders Department at the University of South Florida. She teaches courses concerning augmentative and alternative communication, autism spectrum disorders (ASD), developmental disabilities, and clinical methods, and supervises in the area of language/phonology. Her primary area of expertise is ASD, with a particular interest in reading comprehension in this population. Her research, publication, and presentation interests focus on consistent frameworks to support children with ASD using evidencebased practice in classroom settings. Along with her supervisory and teaching duties, each summer she directs a social skills program for children with ASD. Diehl has created Web courses, master clinician courses, and virtual courses for ASHA. She is a frequent reviewer of professional journal articles and continuing education programs as well as a member of the editorial board of Focus on Autism and Other Developmental Disabilities.
