at Dartmouth: This Friday’s match will mark the third ever meeting between Syracuse and Dartmouth. The last matchup took place in 2012 at the University of Buffalo’s Blue and White Classic. The Orange defeated Big Green 3-1. To open their 2017 campaign, Dartmouth competed in the Cal Classic against California, Texas Tech, and Eastern Washington. The Big Green finished the tournament 1-2. Abby Kott led Dartmouth with 15 kills, Tori Dozier contributed 67 assists and Carly Tower blocked 19 shots. vs. Sacred Heart: The Orange have won the only two meetings against Sacred Heart, with the most recent match occurring in 2011. Syracuse won in straight sets. The Pioneers enter the weekend with a 3-4 record. Liisel Nelis and Makayla Dole pace the Sacred Heart attack with 106 and 102 kills, respectively. Kiki Robinson leads the Pioneers with 281 assists and Rianna McNamee has a team-high 22 total blocks on the year. vs. Iona: The only meeting between Syracuse and Iona occurred in 1987. The Orange were the winners in three sets. The Gaels enter the weekend with a 2-4 record, having competed in the Bucknell Tournament and the Dog Pound Invitational. Claire Archibald leads Iona with 86 kills and 18 aces on the year. Emma Rose has dished out 186 assists and Mia Bonsignore has blocked 13 shots.

Unfamiliar foes Syracuse has faced the three opponents in the tournament a combined five times. It will be the third ever match against Dartmouth and Sacred Heart and the second ever meeting with Iona.

Roll in the returners Syracuse returns 11 total players from last year’s campaign, with five of those being starters. Among that group, there are four statistical leaders from 2016: - Anastasiya Gorelina led the team with 281 kills. - Jalissa Trotter dished out a team-high 691 assists. - Belle Sand posted 18 aces and 416 digs, both team highs.

New Faces in orange Coach Leonid Yelin brings in three new student-athletes to the 2017 roster: - #7 Ella Saada: Freshman outside hitter from Kfar Masaryk, Israel. - #13 Yuliia Yastrub: Sophomore outside hitter from Nikolaev, Ukraine. - #15 Dana Gardner: Freshman middle blocker from Knoxville, Tenn.

‘Cuse Ranked in the ACC As of September 6, 2017, Syracuse is ranked in the ACC top five for: - Blocks per set: rank fifth (2.39). - Opponent blocks per set: rank second (1.35). - Service aces: rank fourth (1.39).

‘Cuse Individuals ranked in the ACC As of September 6, 2017, Syracuse has several student-athletes that rank in the ACC top 10 for individual statistical categories: - Santita Ebangwese: second in hitting percentage (.362) and eight in blocks per set (1.22). - Amber Witherspoon: fifth in hitting percentage (.333). - Belle Sand: eighth in digs per set (3.91).

Active ‘Cuse Career Record Book Members - Belle Sand: eighth all-time with 1,170 career digs and fourth in digs per set (3.58). - Santita Ebangwese: sixth all-time with 1.18 blocks per set.

550 Milestone Head Coach Leonid Yelin became the 26th active head coach to reach 550 career victories on Friday, September 1 when Syracuse won in four sets at Kansas State. Yelin’s path to 550 includes 70 wins at Syracuse, 366 wins at Louisville and 114 wins at Barry.

Saada selected to k-state invitational all-tournament team Freshman Ella Saada was selected to the Kansas State Invitational all-tournament team. In just her second week of competing for The Orange, Saada compiled 21 kills, 19 digs and seven total blocks over ‘Cuse’s three matches.

Syracuse Tournament Notables Amber Witherspoon and Belle Sand each had performances that influenced the Syracuse volleyball record book over the course of the opening weekend: - With her .667 hitting percentage (min. 15 attempts) vs. Niagara. Amber Witherspoon totaled the seventh highest single-match percentage in program history. Witherspoon totaled 11 kills with one error on her 15 attempts. - Belle Sand recorded 71 digs over the course of the tournament, which moved her from

Arkansas 3, Syracuse 0 - Ella Saada led Syracuse with seven kills and contributed five digs and three block assists. - Annie Bozzo and Dana Valelly each tallied a team-leading nine assists. - Belle Sand led the Orange with six digs. - Santita Ebangwese had a match-high five block assists.

Syracuse 3, Kansas State 1 - Santita Ebangwese tied for a match-high 14 kills. She also led all competitors with seven block assists. - Ella Saada had a game-high 11 digs and also added 11 kills and four total blocks. - Jalissa Trotter had a team-high 24 assists.

Wisconsin 3, Syracuse 0 - Santita Ebangwese recorded team highs of four kills and a .500 hitting percentage - Amber Witherspoon led the Orange with three total blocks. - Mariia Levanova had a team-high four digs. -Jalissa Trotter notched a team-leading 14 assists and added an ace.

Colgate 3, Syracuse 1 - Ella Saada totaled a match-high 16 kills, blocked four shots and contributed eight digs. - Santita Ebangwese recorded eight kills, a .538 hitting percentage and four blocks. - Belle Sand had a team-high 21 digs. -Jalissa Trotter notched a team-leading 21 assists and added two aces.

Syracuse 3, Niagara 0 - Amber Witherspoon recorded match-highs in kills (11) and hitting percentage (.667). - Jalissa Trotter totaled 19 assists and eight digs. - Santita Ebangwese added seven kills and five total blocks. - Belle Sand contributed a match-leading 17 digs. - Syracuse trailed 22-20 in set three, but rallied to win five straight points to complete the match.

Grand Canyon 3, Syracuse 1 - Ella Saada and Santita Ebangwese led the team with 13 kills each. Ebangwese also recorded a match-high .571 hitting percentage and chipped in four blocks. Saada added six digs. - Jalissa Trotter dished out 35 assists and contributed eight digs. - Amber Witherspoon had a match-leading five blocks. - Syracuse out-blocked Grand Canyon 11-4 in the match.

SYRACUSE 3, SIENA 0 - Kendra Lukacs notched a match-high 11 kills and recorded a .444 hitting percentage. - Annie Bozzo led the team with 17 assists. - Amber Witherspoon had a match-leading seven blocks and added recorded six kills. - Belle Sand led all competitors with 15 digs and served up two aces.

Leonid Yelin

A proven winner at all levels, Leonid Yelin is the sixth head coach in Syracuse University volleyball history, after taking over the program in 2012. Yelin led the University of Louisville to 14 NCAA Tournaments, including four NCAA Regional semifinals from 1996 through 2010. He enters his sixth season at the helm in 2017. The longtime Louisville head coach brought more 30 years of experience with him before his inagural season in 2012, including international experience as both a player and a coach in Uzbekistan. Yelin has transitioned SU through its first two seasons in the Atlantic Coast Conference. In the team’s first season in the league, Syracuse posted a 16-16 overall record, including an 11-9 mark in the ACC. The Orange finished tied for fifth in the league after being picked to be 12th in the preseason. In the process, Yelin picked up his 500th career win, becoming the 32nd active coach to reach that milestone. Outside hitter SIlvi Uattara became Yelin’s first player to earn All-ACC, while also being recgonized as an All-Region Honorable Mention.

In his first year with Syracuse, Yelin recorded 12 wins, which included a triumph over No. 18 Iowa State for the programs first-ever win against a nationally ranked team. He ended the season with a .748 career winning percentage, putting him 17th among all-time Division I coaches. ‘Cuse Defeated In K-State Invitational Finale The Syracuse women’s volleyball team concluded play at the Kansas State Invitational with a three-set loss to Arkansas (25-22, 25-13, 25-16). Ella Saada led the Orange with seven kills and Santita Ebangwese blocked a match-high five shots. Belle Sand added a team-high six digs. Pilar Victoria recorded a match-leading 19 kills for the Razorbacks and Rachel Rippee led all competitors with 38 assists. Coaches Thoughts “Last night’s victory against Kansas State took so much emotion out of us and we did not recharge for today,” said head coach Leonid Yelin. “Our players tried to build momentum off big plays and Arkansas always had an answer.” Of Note Saada was selected to the all-tournament team for the Orange. In the three tournament matches, she compiled 21 kills, 19 digs and seven total blocks.

Yelin’s 550th Career Win Highlights First Day At K-State Invitational Syracuse women’s volleyball head coach Leonid Yelin picked up his 550th career win as Syracuse defeated Kansas State 3-1 (17-25, 25-18, 25-22, 25-18) in the nightcap of day one at the Kansas State Invitational. The Orange (3-3) fell to Wisconsin 3-0 (25-9, 25-14, 25-16) in the morning matchup. With the win, Yelin becomes the 26th active head coach to reach the 550-victory milestone. Wisconsin 3, Syracuse 0 Santita Ebangwese led ‘Cuse with four kills and Jalissa Trotter contributed a team-high 14 assists in the loss to Wisconsin (4-0). Kelli Bates paced the Badgers with a match-high 12 kills and Sydney Hilley led all competitors with 34 assists. Syracuse 3, Kansas State 1 After dropping the first set to Kansas State (2-3), ‘Cuse was able to win three straight sets and pull off the come from behind triumph. Ebangwese tied for a match-high 14 kills and led all competitors with seven block assists. Trotter chipped in a team-high 24 assists and Ella Saada led the Orange with 13 digs. Coaches Thoughts “We faced two really good teams today,” said associate head coach Erin Little. “Wisconsin and Kansas State are great teams to matchup with in non-conference play because they can help us prepare to face teams that we will see in the ACC.”

Volleyball takes one of two in Tournament Finale The Syracuse women’s volleyball team surged past Niagara (0-3) in three sets (25-16, 25-20, 25-22) Saturday morning at the Syracuse Tournament in the Women’s Building. In the nightcap, the Orange (2-2) were defeated by Colgate (3-0) in straight sets (24-26, 26-28, 21-25). Syracuse 3, Niagara 0 Amber Witherspoon had a match-high 11 kills to lead Syracuse to a 3-0 victory over Niagara. Jalissa Trotter contributed a match-leading 19 assists and Belle Sand led all competitors with 17 digs. Colgate 3, Syracuse 0 Ella Saada recorded a game-high 16 kills for Syracuse in the 3-0 setback against Colgate. Katie Stansbury led the Raiders with 15 kills and Lauren Sanderson had a match-leading 46 assists. Coach’s Thoughts “Colgate was a very similar team to Grand Canyon and their ball control was very good,” said head coach Leonid Yelin. “It was a very close game and I don’t believe that we used our size to our advantage.”
