1 Introduction With AEB’s WMS||XPRESS application you have decided to use a state-of-the-art software product. In the following chapters, you will find the system requirements for installing and running WMS||XPRESS. Systems and constellations not matching the requirements described in this document are not supported. Please note that the system requirements do not constitute any contractually granted properties of the services offered by AEB. Please also note that AEB explicitly reserves the right to change the system requirements.

2 Requirements for Web Applications: Internet/Intranet 2.1

Internet Connection

Access must be made via a broad-band Internet connection. We recommend a connection which is able to provide a peak value of 2MBit/s to enable smooth working also with applications not yet cached. In detail we recommend: Average of exclusive 128Kbit/s per workstation for working with the application. SSL access (SSL3, RC4 with 128 bit encryption (High); RSA with 1024 bit exchange) from TCP port 443 including the DNS resolution of external hosts on the workstations. For working with a good performance, DNS resolution through a probably used Internet proxy is not sufficient!

2.2

Workstation PC

2.2.1

Hardware

IBM-compatible PC, at least Intel Pentium 4 processor, 2 GHz or comparable, 256 MB RAM, 300 MB free hard disk space, graphic resolution at least 1024 x 768, 256 colors.

2.2.2

Operating System

Windows 7 (SP1) 32/64 Bit, Windows XP (SP4) 32 Bit and the RDP and Citrix Desktops under Windows 2008 R2 Server (up to SP1) Standard, Enterprise, Datacenter or Windows 2003 (up to SP2), 32 Bit.

»

Operating systems are generally only supported until expiry of the respective supplier’s “Extended Support” period.

2.2.3

Display

Screen resolution should be 1024x786 or higher for having all screen elements visible at a glance. For optimal display we recommend using the default value 96 DPI in the display settings.

2.2.4

Web Browser

At least IE version 6.0 with SP2 (for Windows XP), current patch level up to IE version 8.0. Please note: If a 64-bit version of IE is used, it is currently not possible to view PDF files due to a bug in Acrobat Reader 10. It is also possible to use Mozilla Firefox Browser Version 3.6.X. It is, however, required that this browser is configured as default browser if an Internet proxy is used. JavaScript Capability The WEB application pages are interactive pages. The interactive functionality has been implemented by means of JavaScript programming. Therefore, JavaScript must be enabled. IE Setup Microsoft Internet Explorer differentiates between security zones. Each zone may have different properties which check security-relevant parameters. We recommend that those zones in which WEB application pages are available allow the use of JavaScript and Cookies. Moreover, for extended functions, e.g. download of files, it is required that they are permitted (Enable “Automatic prompting for file downloads”). Therefore, we recommend adding the AEB application pages to the “trusted sites” or to the “local Intranet” and make all necessary security settings there.

Browser Caching If you use the WEB application pages as client front end, please make sure that browser caching has been set up in such a way that the application is not constantly re-loaded when being accessed by the browser. This requires 300 MB hard disk space. The WEB application HTML pages do not contain any transaction data and can therefore rather be compared to a small program. The actual transaction data is transferred dynamically and in real-time to the pages.

»

In Internet Explorer, caching settings can be defined in Tools – Internet Options – General – Settings. You can choose either the “Automatic” or the “With every start of Internet Explorer” option.

The option Do not save encrypted pages to disk in Internet Explorer – Tools – Internet Options – Advanced must not be enabled if the connection is made via SSL. File Download If the application requires a file download, this must be enabled in the browser settings: Tools – Internet Options – Security – Internet or Trusted Sites (depending on which zone the AEB websites rz3.aeb.de or rz4.aeb.de have been assigned to) – Custom Level – Download – Enable File Download.

Popup Blocker Popup blockers of Microsoft Internet Explorer or of any other third-party software (e.g. virus scanners) must be disabled for the URL of AEB’s Computing Center.

System Requirements WMS||XPRESS

2

Pishing Filter Using a pishing filter may have a negative impact on performance. Therefore, we recommend disabling the pishing filter for the trusted sites (which should also include the entries rz.aeb.de, rz3.aeb.de and rz4.aeb.de).

2.2.5

PDF Support

Adobe Acrobat Reader as from version 5.0 is required to display PDF-documents. In Adobe Acrobat Reader, the Use local fonts option must be activated. This option can be found under Edit – Basic Settings – Page Display – Rendering – Use Local Fonts.

2.3

Settings

For initial access, an Internet Explorer is required which installs/starts Java (version 6) or the client application. To enable the start of the client application, the process java.exe/javaw.exe must establish a connection to the Internet, namely to the AEB computer center https://rz3.aeb.de/. Please make sure that all security applications (firewalls, virus scanners, etc.) allow the client PC to establish the connection.

2.4

Installing Java 6

An installation of Java 6 (as from 1.6.0 Update_25) 32 bit or 64 bit is required. Due to a severe Java security hole, at least Java 1.6.0_31 is recommended.

»

Please note that when using Java 64 bit, it is not possible to have embedded Adobe PDF reader windows. PDFs are opened in separate windows.

When opening the website for the first time, you will be asked to install Java 6 unless it has already been installed on your client PC.

»

Please note that the installation requires local administrator rights.

Java 6 can be downloaded at: http://www.java.com/download.

2.5

Allowing Java at Squid Proxy

The Squid proxy with NTLM authentication and Java Webstart/Java Applets do not work together in standard systems. In this case, either Java must be generally allowed or – if this is not possible due to security reasons – at least the target URL of the AEB computer center must be allowed: Allowing Java generally at the Squid proxy: acl Java browser Java/1.6 http_access allow Java

Only allowing the AEB computer center at the Squid proxy: acl AEB-RZ3 dst rz3.aeb.de http_access allow AEB-RZ3

2.6

Installing “Segoe UI” Font

For the application, it is recommended installing the “Segoe UI” font. On Windows 7/Windows 2008 systems it is installed by default. For other operating systems, it needs to be installed separately.

2.7

Bug-Fixing Internet Explorer (MSIE) 6.0 SP1

When using Microsoft Internet Explorer (MSIE) 6.0 Service Pack 1, pages may hang, i.e. pages cannot be refreshed. This is due to a bug in Internet Explorer which becomes particularly apparent in the following environment:

»

MSIE 6.0.2800, XP Service Pack 1, browser caching disabled.

In order to fix the problem, you need to make the following changes to the registry: >> HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings: MaxConnectionsPerServer = 10 (hex) MaxConnectionsPer1_0Server = 10 (hex) The official Microsoft knowledge base article can be found here: http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;279745 (Microsoft Knowledge Base – Article 279745) and http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;183110 (Microsoft Knowledge Base – Article 183110)
