If you haven’t been to Talon Stream Park yet, you are missing a terrific new park. Talon Stream is on a 13.5 acre site located north of the Richard A. Carlucci Recreation and Aquatic Center. Scenic views of White Lick Creek can be seen from the park, as the Creek runs along its north and east sides. Plus, a trail of about half a mile runs in and through the park. Even better, improvements are on the way! A park shelter, including restrooms, will be constructed with a shelter area large enough for 75 patrons. Picnic tables and trash receptacles will also be added.
Around the trail are three overlooks that will have shade structures added to them with benches. This project is scheduled to begin construction in October and is set for completion in the late fall. The amenities and rentals will be available for use in the spring of 2018. “We’re excited to introduce these new facilities into the inventory of what’s available for patrons of our parks and trails system,” said Clay Chafin, Director of Parks & Recreation. “They will enhance the recreational opportunities we offer throughout the year here in Plainfield.”

Howl-A-Ween and Sat-Terror-Day Events Coming The Howl-a-Ween costume contest for dogs continues to be a fun event that attracts a lot of participation at the Plainfield Bark Park. The event returns for its fifth year on Saturday, October 21 from noon to 1 p.m. For those who have not yet been to the Bark Park, it is between the Plainfield Middle School and Swinford Park at 1007 Longfellow Lane (southeast side of Swinford Park). Parking is at Swinford Park. The event is free but donations will be accepted. Proceeds support the Humane Society of Hendricks County’s HOPE project. Prizes will be awarded for those dogs coming in first and second places. Participants MUST BE current members of the Bark Park and show their membership cards OR non-members may participate IF they produce valid vaccination records for their dogs (the paper certificate is required; a tag will not be accepted). Registering your dog ahead of time at the front desk of the Rec Center will simplify things on the day of the event. (Please bring your
dog’s records, but not your dog, if you come to the front desk.) This year the popular “Sat-Terror-Day” Halloween-themed event will be held Saturday, October 28 at the Richard A. Carlucci Recreation & Aquatic Center, 651 Vestal Road, from 11 am to 1 pm. The event will feature pumpkin bowling, face painting, pumpkin decorating (while supplies last) and, of course, Halloween candy and snacks. We’ll also have activities in the gym from Big
You never know what super hero dogs might show up at the Bark Park during the Howl-A-Ween event!
Bounce Fun House Rentals. Hay rides will also be available from 10:30 am to 1:30 pm, leaving from the main entrance. All activities at “Sat-Terror-Day” are free to the general public. You do not have to be a member of the Recreation & Aquatic Center to participate. Questions about either event should be directed to the Parks Department at 317-839-7665.

“Pictures with Santa” Includes More than Just Photos The Plainfield Recreation & Aquatic Center’s annual “Pictures with Santa” event returns on Saturday, December 16 with plenty of fun, games, activities, and of course, Santa! The fun starts at 11 am in the gaming area where the pingpong tables are. There, Santa will be set up for picture taking. You are welcome to take a photograph yourself, or we have a photographer who will take your photo for free. All photos will be uploaded within
a few days to our Facebook page, where parents and friends can download the photo and make copies as desired. Again, this service is completely FREE! In addition to getting a photo taken with Jolly Old Saint Nick, we’ll have other things to keep kids busy and help them get into the holiday spirit. We’ll have cookies to decorate, crafts to make, and snacks to eat, all while supplies last. We’ll also have a bounce house of
some kind that will help generate a naptime later in the day. You do not have to be a member of the Recreation Center or a resident of the Town of Plainfield to come to “Pictures with Santa.” It’s all fun and totally FREE. The event ends at 1 pm, though, so be sure to get there early, especially if you want to get that photo with Santa!
