Create a new campaign

Scruff uses Google AdWords to supply and manage its advertising. Businesses and organizations who wish to advertise on SCRUFF should create an AdWords account at http://adwords.google.com

Campaigns contain one or more ads, and are the level at which you configure AdWords to target SCRUFF. There are many campaign-level settings that will be important to you (e.g. where and when to show your ad, bid and budget amounts). The following settings are those necessary to specifically target SCRUFF:  Campaigns > New Campign. Select Display Network Only (Fig 1), Mobile Apps for type (Fig 2). Fig 1

Create your ad Create either a text or image ad. Important points:  If you are doing an image ad: • It must be 320 x 50, and you must check this dimension under Supported image types • It must be a GIF, JPG, or PNG (we recommend JPG) • It must be under 7.5K in size

 If your ad directs users to a landing page, be sure that your landing page works properly and looks attractive when viewed in a mobile device browser (e.g. Safari). Specific considerations: • No Flash, as it will not work on iOS devices • No form elements that prompt to upload a file, as this will not work on iOS devices

 Once created, Google must approve your ad before it will be shown. Approved ads will have a status of “Approved” (“Eligible” means the ad is pending review). Once your ad is approved, there may be a delay before you start seeing ad performance statistics  The best advice we can offer for running a successful ad in SCRUFF is to experiment. If time and budget permit, create multiple versions of your ad (e.g. an image and a text version, two image versions using different imagery) and run them separately (or concurrently) to see what works best.
