Temperance One of the very best Temperance Talks to which it has ever been our good fortune to listen was given in Unity Auditorium last Sunday morning by Mr. Charles Fillmore. Speaking from the viewpoint of Practical Christianity, Mr. Fillmore took the subject out from the usual method of treatment where tem perance means abstinence from intoxi cating liquors only. He said that tem perance changed the appetite and desire upon every plane, causing one to desire purer and better ways of obtaining satis faction. It was not the destruction of desire, but its elevation, so that the ap petite was for that which gave real hap piness and satisfaction. The following are some of the affirmations which Mr. Fillmore gave as a drill, and which carry healing with them when the inner meaning is realized: I am Spirit. My mind is spiiitual. My thoughts recognize the substance of the Spirit. I desire the substance of the Spirit. The thought of life is substance to my mind. The thought of strength is substance to my mind. The thought of power is substance to my mind. I am now satisfied with the substance of the Spirit.

My craving for food is now satisfied with the substance of the Spirit. My craving for drink is now satisfied with the Spirit. My craving for a larger knowledge of God is now satisfied by Spirit. My desire for love and companionship is now fulfilled by Spirit. All the desires of my heart are now satisfied by Spirit.

Sunday Evening Lecture Rev. A. T. Osbron gave an interest ing talk last Sunday evening, in Unity Auditorium, upon the subject, “ The Four-Fold Man,” using as his text Eze^ kiel 1:10, “ As for the likeness of their faces, they four had the face of a man, and the face of a lion, on the right side: and they four had the face of an ox on the left side; they four had also the face of an eagle.” This he applied to the man of God, the face of the man being representative of wisdom; the lion of courage; the ox of submission; the eagle of aspiration. His talk was interspersed with inter esting anecdotes and humorous allusions to his experiences with his denomina tion and his orthodox friends, who have not understood and sympathized with his progressive views. Unity people bid Mr. Osbron God speed in his work along the new lines.

Current Events The Editor of this paper is away on his vacation, rusticating in the rural districts of the Sunflower State. The editorial pen is wielded by Jennie H. Croft for this one issue of the W e e k l y U n it y . Subscribers will please not dis continue their paper. Complaints may be made to the Editor upon his return. Mrs. Bissett, Matron of the Inn, served a sumptuous vegetarian dinner last Sunday. Many of the attendants of the morning service availed them selves of the opportunity of getting a good meal without having to go home and cook it. Those who did not stay for the dinner will try it another day, and we know they will be pleased. Dr. John E. Roberts, Pastor of the Church of this World, Kansas City, Mo., was one of the attendants at the morning service last Sunday. Dr. Roberts has promised to speak for Unity Society on some future Sunday evening, and we can promise him a rousing big audience. It is not necessary to go home after the Sunday morning service to get din ner. Jusi step into the Unity Vegetar ian Inn.' The Sunday dinner is 35 cents.

WEEKLY UNITY

RESPONSI VE

SERVI CE.

Sunday, October 3 We saw one casting out devils in thy name: and we forbade him, because he followed not us. Forbid him not: for there is no man which shall do a mighty work in my name, and be able quickly to speak evil of me. For he that is not against us is for us. For whosoever shall give you a cup of water to drink, because ye are Christ’s, verily I say unto you, he shall in no wise lose his reward. A new commandment I give unto you, that ye love one another. Even as 1 have loved you, that ye also love one another. By this shall all men know that ye are my disciples, if ye have love one to another. For in one Spirit we are all baptized into one body, whether Jews or Greeks, whether bond or free; and we were all made to drink of one Spirit. Love suffereth long and is kind. Love envieth not; Love vaunteth not itself, Is not puffed up, Doth not behave itself unseemly, ' Seeketh not its own, Is not provoked. Taketh no account of evil; Rejoiceth not in unrighteousness, But rejoiceth with the Truth. Love never faileth.

Showers A shower which premises to be of unusual magnitude and far-reaching in its effects is predicted for Wednesday.

October 6th. It will be local, the cen tral point of activity being UNITY INN. Showers of Jelly, of Pickles, of Canned Fruit, in fact, any good vege table or fruit products are to rain upon the Inn on this day, and we believe there will be a genuine flood of good things to eat. Groceries, supplies of various sorts, will find a welcome and make our good Matron happy. This is a shower which is annual, and if we use the past as an augury, there will be a heavy downpour. Will you help to swell the flood? Now is a good time to get views of the Unity Building on souvenir Post cards. The set of eight cards are on sale in the library. The price has been marked down from 25 cents to 15 cents a set. “ Our Songs,” by R. H. Randall, just the thing for students of Truth, is now ready for delivery. Neatly bound in boards, price 60 cents per copy. Sunday evening services were resumed last Sunday evening, the address being given by the Rev. A. T. Osbron of this city. The New Vegetarian Cook Book is now being printed and will be completed in time for Thanksgiving delivery. This book is an innovation in the art of printing, and also in compilation, and is worthy a place in every home. Place your orders for this book now. WEEKLY UNITY

Auxiliary Notes The Woman’s Auxiliary, at the month ly business meeting held Friday, Septem ber 24th, voted to give to each member and to every woman of the "Unity Society who wish to help in the good cause, a Seed Dollar, over which the word of in crease had been spoken in the Name of the Lord. It is expected that all the in crease which comes as the multiplication of this “ Seed” to the one who pos sesses unwavering faith in the power of the WORD, shall be brought in at a time designated by the Auxiliary, and that the sum thus gained shall be given to the fund for the New Building. The members present decided not to limit the abundance, of which the Auxiliary is a channel by pledging any definite amount to be given for this purpose, knowing that the blessing of the Spirit is unstinted to those who ask with un limited confidence in the Infinite re source. An urgent invitation is extended to our women to unite with the Auxiliary as members, and increase the interest and resourcefulness of the organization. A special meeting of the Auxiliary was called for Wednesday, September 29th for the purpose of consecrating the “ Seed Dollars.” The meeting was held immediately after the usual Mid-Week Meeting. Another measure was adopted at the suggestion of Mr. Charles Fillmore, who believes and declares that the Woman’s Auxiliary is a living, active power for the good of the whole Society. An Ad visory Board for the Unity Inn is to be appointed, and it shall confer with the

Matron of the Inn regarding the general needs, and assist in devising ways and means to meet the requirements. When the new and larger Unity Vegetarian Inn is in operation this Advisory Board will prove an important factor in the success of the enterprise. The President will announce the personnel of the Board later
