What is Reading Ahead?

Celebrating

Launched in 2008, this annual programme challenges people to choose six reads (not just books but poems, articles or digital text can count) and record their reading in a diary YEARS to go online atYEARS to get a certificate. It also encourages them readingahead.org.uk to share their reading choices and look for their next read. “I enjoyed having to really think about what I was reading.”

Who’s it for?

Reading Ahead is mainly aimed at less confident readers who (Rhos) want to improve their literacy and language skills or to get back into reading. It has reached at least 275,000 young people and adults over ten years through public libraries, colleges, adult and community learning, prisons and workplaces.

When does it take place? Most organisations run Reading Ahead from the autumn through to June the following year to coincide with our deadlines for data return and prize draws. Our print materials can be purchased at any time from our online Shop at readingagency.org.uk
