INDIANA UNIVERSITY SPORTS MEDICINE EMERGENCY ACTION PLAN INDIANA UNIVERSITY TENNIS CENTER Emergency Personnel: Certified athletic trainer(s) and athletic training student(s) are on site for practice and competition. Physician(s) are on call for competition. Emergency Communication: Cellular phone. Backup landline is located at the main desk at (812) 855-5750.
Emergency Equipment: An AED is located behind the front desk upon entering the facility. Splints, first aid supplies, and medical kit are maintained with the host athletic trainer in the lounge located between courts 4 and 5.
Venue Directions: The Indiana University Tennis Center is located off of North Fee Lane just west of the Outdoor Tennis Courts. Emergency vehicles should enter off of North Fee Lane at Gate 12 to access main entrance of the Indiana University Tennis Center. Emergency Team personnel will be at the entrance of the tennis center to direct EMS to emergency scene.
Roles within the Emergency Team (First Responders) Venue Directions: • • • •
Establish scene safety and immediate care Fee of athlete Billy Hayes Track is located east of North Lane adjacent to Armstrong Stadium. Emergency vehicles should enterofoff of North Fee Lane System at driveway entrance to access main entrance of Billy Hayes Track. Activation Emergency Medical (EMS) Emergency personnel will be at the entrance of the track complex to direct EMS to emergency Emergency Team equipment retrieval scene. Direction of EMS to scene
Activating the EMS System
Making the Call: • • •
Staff athletic trainer or designate will stay with athlete and provide emergency care Athletic training student or other team personnel will meet EMS at appropriate entrance and direct to scene Using a cellular phone, call 911
Providing Information: • • • • •
Name, address (location) of caller/emergency, Number of athletes, Nature of injury or condition(s) Current care being given or initiated by first responder Specific directions to locate the emergency scene Other information as requested by dispatcher o Leave callback number o Let dispatcher hang up first
Continued Care: • • •
Stabilize and monitor athlete as needed Notify the team physician and/or staff athletic trainer Designate someone to keep a record of events and vital information
