On Wednesday, our Year 6 children went to the centre of Newcastle to learn more about World War 2. They took the metro and learnt some facts about how each of the stops on the way to Newcastle had been impacted by the war. They then went to the Centre For Life for an amazing workshop about coding and ciphering and learned how secret messages could be sent. They made a cypher wheel to make their own codes and decipher their friends' codes. They then used their maths skills to figure out where a message was sent from , using time and distance on maps. They are now considering a career in the spy network! After that they went to the Discovery museum to look at the WWII soldier exhibit. They also stopped off at the science section which had experiments in light and electricity and they looked at some of the work of Joseph Swan. It was fantastic exploring this museum but they ran out of time!
In Reception this half term we are looking at transport. Today we have been on an exciting trip to look for different forms of transport! We got a coach to South Shields and then we got the ferry!! We were so excited. We went upstairs on the ferry and listened to the safety announcement, we looked up and down the river at all of the different types of boats, there were lots to see. We met the Captain! We then went on a transport hunt and saw lots of different types! Have a lovely weekend.
