TGS Netball TGS Court Talk—Week Ending 12/6/2016  .

From the Director of Netball Welcome  We are fast approaching the end of another term and it is time for a quick update of all things Netball!

As well as the regular Wednesday fixtures there have been many other Netball activities happening in what has certainly been a busy term. There have been Carnivals, Junior School visits, Open Night exhibitions and Vicki Wilson Cup Netball, just to name a few. Junior and Middle School Tours are departing soon which adds another exciting dimension to the Netball@Grammar program. Last game before School holidays is Wednesday 15th June and fixtures recommence on Wednesday 13th July. Quote of  the Week

“Sportsmanship to me is when someone walks off the court and you really can’t tell whether they won or lost, when they carry themself with pride either way”

Junior  School  Visit

Week 2 of term saw Grammar 1 go to the Junior School to assist with Netball Training. In what is always a fun morning for both groups of girls, they took the Junior teams for skills and drills followed by an exhibition game against the year 5 and 6 girls. Well done to Grammar 1 in what was a fun morning!!

TGS Netball Burdekin Carnival

Sunday 10th April Grammar 1 travelled to Home Hill to compete in the Burdekin Junior Netball Carnival. Playing in the Cadets Division against Rep teams from Burdekin and Townsville the girls were consistent over the course of the day and after a couple of close losses finished the day strong with a 24-4 win against Wildcats from Townsville to become Premiers of their Division. Natasha Robinson was voted Best and Fairest of the Cadets Division by opposing teams, a very well deserved award! Congratulations to all the girls for displaying great sportsmanship and representing the School proudly. Thankyou to all the parents who travelled to Home Hill and supported the girls or helped with scoring. A big thankyou also to Ammie Stephenson for being our team umpire for the day.

TGS Netball Townsville Carnival

On the weekend of Saturday 14th and Sunday 15th May Grammar 1,7 and 8 competed in the McDonalds Townsville Junior Netball Carnival. Grammar 8, coached by Ms Rebecca Gimpel competed in the 14yrs A Division. After an initial loss first game Saturday morning, they continued to improve and develop across the weekend to finish equal top, on points, with 2 other teams and Runners-up on percentage. Grammar 7, coached by Mrs Lizzie Wood, also played well and consistently over the weekend and finished as Runners-up in the 15yrs A Division. Grammar 1, playing in the Cadets Division, played against Club teams from Townsville and Charters Towers as well as the NQ Schoolgirls Open and 15yrs teams who compete as invitational teams. The girls managed to cause an upset by defeating the ‘highly fancied’ Open team 17-13 in what was a strong and dominant performance. They finished the weekend as undefeated Premiers in the Cadets Division in what can be described as a great team effort! Thankyou to Coaches; Parents for their support and assistance with scoring and canteen duties; Karl Geiger, Emma Verkuijk and several of the players for fulfilling our umpiring duties and of course all the players for again proudly representing the School.

TGS Netball Sports Tours

On Wednesday 15th June a Grammar netball team from the Junior School will depart for Brisbane and the Gold Coast on the Annual Sports Tour this will be followed by a group of 18 netballers from the Middle School who on Saturday 18th June head to the cold of Canberra. This is a very exciting opportunity for both groups as they experience playing different opponents, and in the case of the Middle Schoolers, playing in very different conditions. Good luck to everyone going on these Tours and enjoy the experience!

NetSetGo There will be no NetSetGo fixtures played on Tuesday 14th June as all Coaches are involved in Parent/Teacher Interviews at the Junior School. This is the last round of games before School holidays, fixtures for NetSetGo will recommence on Tuesday 12th July.

TGS Netball Game Day Etiquette

Uniform

Umpires

Game Day Etiquette as supplied by TCNA 

Please remove all jewellery and ensure fingernails are short and smooth before the game



Captains of teams must determine which team has first centre pass and the direction of the teams, and inform the umpires.



The team who is first on the draw collects the score sheet from the pigeon holes inside.



Each team provides a scorer and sit next to them.



Each player must sign the score sheet next to their name.

As an ambassador of the School, the playing uniform should be worn with pride and in the correct manner at all times, this includes wearing the TGS uniform as listed below when travelling to the Murray Complex.  TGS sports bag or Netball Representative bag (North Queensland, Queensland or Australian)  TGS sports polo  Black pleated netball skirt and sports polo for NetSetGo (810yrs), Bodysuit (supplied) Junior School U12’s or dress and bummers for U12 – U18 (North Ward Campus only)  Plain white sport socks  Sports shoes or Netball specific shoes (worn to and from games also)  TGS tracksuit  Year 12 Students may wear their Senior Jersey Umpires are an integral part of the game as without them we would not be able to play. As Grammar has to supply 16 umpires every week, I am continually looking for anyone who is interested in learning how to umpire. It is a great way to improve your playing game and you get paid for games once you are deemed competent by TCNA. Can all girls interested complete the online Umpire’s Rules exam which can be found on the Netball Australia website – Get Involved/e -learning/section 1 Umpire exam. Once completed please email to me.

TGS Netball   Parent  Helpers

We are looking for parents to help with collecting team sheets and scoring on Wednesday nights. These jobs are very simple but helpful to the coaches. If you can help out in this way can you please approach the coaches and let them know. This helps the coach to be able to focus on their team.

Parking

The TCNA has asked for everyone to please be aware of ‘No Parking’ and ‘Designated drop-off’ areas at the Murray Netball Courts on a Wednesday night. Please only park in the designated parking spots.
