that we all can enjoy… Northshore The Miracle League of the Northshore is a non-profit organization whose mission is to provide a rubberized baseball field at Coquille Parks and Recreation in Covington, LA. This Miracle Field will be built for children with special needs so they have the chance to play baseball just like other kids. The Miracle League is designed to serve kids who cannot be accommodated by established baseball, soccer and basketball leagues due to the special needs of their disabilities. There are very few athletic opportunities for children and young adults with moderate to severe disabilities on the North Shore. The Miracle Field will be one of the first of its kind in the area; the next closest Miracle Field is in New Orleans. The dirt and grass design of a baseball or soccer field found in a typical youth sports program cannot accommodate the walking devices or wheel-chair kids. These custom-designed venues incorporate a cushioned synthetic turf that accommodates wheelchairs and other walking assistance devices while helping prevent injuries. In other words, it provides a level-playing field where children with special needs can hit, run, and catch — just like the best of them.
The vision
of the program is to provide children with special needs, regardless of their level of disability, the opportunity to play league sports and enjoy the emotional and physical benefits of being part of a team sport.
How is the Miracle League baseball field different from a regular youth field? Baseball diamonds weren’t exactly designed with wheelchairs, crutches and visual impairments in mind. The Miracle Field is barrier free and allows the greatest confidence building environment for everyone involved.

The Miracle League of the Northshore offers several different sponsorship opportunities. Every donation goes towards the costs of facilities, uniforms, and equipment, and all the little things that make the game as special as the kids who play it.

Every “Buddy” counts! Miracle League team members are assigned buddies who assist them in hitting the ball, running the bases, kicking the ball and dribbling down court. Who are these buddies I talk about? The fabulous volunteers that guide our special ball players through our game; buddies can be fellow schoolmates, parents, college students, business leaders or anyone who wishes to volunteer their time to give a child the gift of sports.
