The 2019 Annual Seedling Sale We know it’s still chilly outside, but start dreaming. Luscious berries, extra-large asparagus, flowering native dogwoods, there’s something for everyone in this year’s seedling sale. Our featured plant, new this year (drum roll, please): Rosa Rugosa. This native, deer resistant, low maintenance, sweetly scented rose has an extended bloom time and is a prolific producer of hips for food and medicinal use. They will be sold in pairs as bare root seedlings that can flower in pink, purple, and white. Back again are our tried-and-true blueberries, blackberries, and red raspberries; they will be joined this year by June-bearing Cavendish strawberries, known for their hardiness and high yields. And we’re adding the popular Bartlett pear tree: since they are semi self-fertile, you need only one! Veggie growers will get a payback year-after-year from vigorous, disease-resistant Jersey Knight asparagus and vigorous Macdonald rhubarb (think strawberry rhubarb pie!). Finally, who can resist flowering shrubs? Our native plant bundle includes two each of five proven successful varieties: White Flowering Dogwood, Elderberry, Black Chokeberry, Kousa Dogwood, and Eastern Redbud. The deadline for orders is March 15, but act now so you won’t be disappointed.

Blackberry: The Darrow Blackberry was developed at the New York Experimental Station to bring you the best in

flavor and spectacular crops year after year. The berries themselves are exceptionally large and sugar sweet. One of the most winter hardy blackberries! Ripen early and continue over a large period.

FRUIT TREES Bartlett Pear

This popular pear tree is bare root. They are self-pollinating, meaning they need only a single tree to produce fruit. These trees are cold hardy. They should be pruned upon planting.

VEGETABLES Jersey Knight Asparagus:

One of the New Jersey asparagus hybrids, Jersey Knight is extremely vigorous, has large, succulent spears, and quickly attracts a loyal following. The flavor is excellent, and the plant is resistant to rust, crown rot and fusarium. It also performs equally well in heavy, clay-like soils. A soil pH level of 7.0 - 7.2 for asparagus plants is recommended. Asparagus plants produce a light harvest in the 2nd year, a larger harvest the 3rd year, and a full harvest in subsequent years.
