Bosch is a well known name when it comes to household appliances, from power drills to fridges but Automotive Technology generates 60 per cent of the company’s annual Turnover. Indeed, Bosch is driving the way forward when it comes to driver assistance systems. Based on intelligent sensor technology, driver assistance systems constantly monitor the vehicle surroundings as well as driving behaviour to detect potentially dangerous situations at an early stage. In addition to driving safety and comfort systems, Bosch Automotive includes powertrain technology and car-to-car connectivity.
For car maintenance, the Bosch Car Service network of garages provides consumers with a service they can trust.
Industrial Technology includes Bosch Rexroth, the drive and control company, whose technology moves machines and systems of any size, and Packaging Technology, which provides integrated packaging and process engineering solutions. Consumer Goods includes Power Tools, which is the market leader for portable electric power tools and lawn and garden products, and BSH Home Appliances Ltd (a 50/50 joint venture between Bosch and Siemens). BSH is one of the world’s top producers of home appliances, manufacturing products such as refrigerators, dishwashers and washing machines.
Energy and Building Technology includes the Bosch Thermotechnology division, which in the UK operates under the Worcester brand supplying boilers and renewable home heating and hot water solutions. Meanwhile, the Security Systems division provides industry-based security solutions, while the Bosch Communication Center offers a complete range of customer call centre operations. Achievements Bosch has received much recognition for its products and has been credited with the development of leading automotive safety systems such as Electronic Stability Programme (ESP®), Anti Lock Braking System (ABS) and Automatic Emergency Braking (AEB). Robert Bosch opens his ‘workshop for precision and electric engineering’ in Stuttgart, Germany. Bosch delivers the first high-voltage magneto ignition system with Bosch spark plugs. Bosch launches the first version of its power drill and hammer. Bosch launches its first electric refrigerator. Production begins on gasoline injector systems for passenger cars. Bosch Rexroth launches the first two-stage planetary gear developed specifically for wind energy. Series production of ESP® begins, increasing driver and passenger safety. Bosch Power Tools launch the IXO Cordless drill/driver with a lithium-ion rechargeable battery.
