George Ferguson CBE Bristol Mayor
The Bristol ADS City Solutions Summit Dynamixx, in partnership with the Mayor of Bristol, is holding a pioneering invitation-only smart city initiatives summit. The first event of this kind ever to take place has been launched at the Mayor’s request to tap aerospace, defence and security (ADS) sector technology for the transformation of cities and energy, environmental and infrastructure markets.
Delivering smart city initiatives to Bristol and the world The summit will take place on 12 June 2013 at Bristol’s City Hall. A full one-day programme will analyse and explore approaches and opportunities that play to ADS sector skills and technologies that can be developed, packaged, financed and marketed for energy, environment and infrastructure needs, not just for one of the UK’s largest cities, but also on a worldwide scale. This is not a conference, but an invitation-only event that will be geared exclusively to how the global ADS sector can work with the city and appropriate cross-sector industry partners to address underlying project needs in the following areas:
• • • • •
C4/Big Data Management Energy Environment Health Buildings
• Safety/Security • Transport Creating a global partnership Government and commercial procurement executives will join senior representatives from the aerospace defence and security (ADS) prime contractors alongside Bristol’s strategists from the Mayor’s office, international insurance providers and potential partners in the IT, construction, healthcare, clean tech and energy fields. This is also an opportunity to network with international and European financial institutions as well as global infrastructure developers and leading academics.
Bristol – a test-bed for change Located in the Southwest of England, Bristol is an international hub for ADS companies with major corporations situated in and around the city, including Airbus, BAE Systems, GKN Aerospace and Rolls-Royce as well as government-owned establishments such as DE&S (Defence Equipment and Support). Bristol is part of the largest microprocessor design cluster outside of Silicon Valley in the US and the City region is the third largest research cluster in the UK. Moreover, Bristol’s Green Digital Charter seeks to transform the city via the introduction of smart ICT, transport and energy. Bristol is a three times European Green Capital finalist and a leading Future City.
Summit hosts: Mayor George Ferguson CBE became the first independent mayor to lead a major city in Britain in November 2012. He co-founded Ferguson Mann Architects and is also a past President
of the Royal Institute of British Architects. He has a wide variety of experience in architectural, master planning and regeneration projects, including urban regeneration and historic building work. George Ferguson is a lateral thinker and prime mover for changes in attitude to planning and redevelopment in the Southwest Region and beyond.
