Course Selection: All students must select the equivalent of 3 courses to study in the Sixth Form. The double BTEC awards count as two choices. Please choose one double award BTEC and either one single award BTEC or one A Level subject. You can select one of the following combinations:  One double BTEC award (which is two choices) and one single BTEC award. These must be in different subjects. You cannot choose the single award in the same subject as the double award. OR  One double BTEC award and one A Level course. Please indicate which courses you would like to study by placing a Tick next to the double BTEC award you choose and next to the single award BTEC or A Level you choose. Please also indicate 2 reserve single BTEC award or A Level subjects which you would also be happy to study if you did not get your first choice. Please indicate these with R1 and R2 in the order that you would like us to consider the choices. Purple Pathway

BTEC Single Awards (broadly equivalent to 1 A Level)

Purple Pathway Guidance You have been selected for the Purple Pathway because the predicted grades submitted by your teachers indicate that you are likely to get an average point score of 3.5 – 3.9. This means that you have the full suite of BTEC courses and some A Level subjects open to you for study in the Sixth Form. Students on the Purple Pathway are required to select one double BTEC award in addition to a single BTEC or A Level subject and will follow a vocational pathway. As you progress in your academic career in the Sixth Form you will be educated on, supporting in and guided to apply for university, apprenticeships and, where appropriate, for employment. There are a wide range of universities that would be suitable for students following the Purple Pathway. There is information available on the UCAS (University and College Application Service) website by visiting www.ucas.com. Here you are able to search for university courses and research entry requirements for the courses. You may also wish to visit www.whatuni.com on which you are able to entry possible results to research which universities would be suitable. Students who wish to pursue an Apprenticeship will also receive information and guidance about how to search and apply for apprenticeships. Students who wish to go straight into employment will have detailed guidance on appropriate jobs and will receive help to apply. You will be taught how to write a CV and will have the opportunity to have mock interviews to ensure you have the best possible chance at successfully securing the most suitable position.

Purple Pathway Specific Course Entry Requirements – A Level Subjects 2017-18 There are some subjects which may be studied at A Level which have not been studied at GCSE. These are listed below. If you have studied these subjects at GCSE, the entry requirements outlined on the previous page apply. If not, you must fulfil the criteria below. Photography

If you have not studied Photography at GCSE, to study A Level Photography you must have achieved a Grade 4 in GCSE English.

Drama

If you have not studied Drama at GCSE, to study A Level Drama you must have achieved a Grade 4 in English and you will have to attend an audition run by the Drama Department. Students successful in the audition and who fulfil these criteria will be permitted to study Drama.

Sociology

If you have not studied Sociology at GCSE, to study A Level Sociology you must have a minimum of a Grade 4 in one of the English GCSEs.

BTEC Business (double and single awards)

If you have not studied Business at GCSE, to study BTEC Business you must have achieved a Grade 4 in GCSE English and a Grade 4 in GCSE Maths.

BTEC Digital Media (double and single awards)

If you have not studied Media at GCSE, to study BTEC Media you must have achieved a Grade 4 in GCSE English and a Grade 4 in GCSE Maths.
