The California M ountaineering Club. With the last issue of our newsletter, the California M ountaineering Club entered its eighth year. M em bership this year exceeded the 300 mark. This year saw the tragic death o f our president, R. Dave Dykeman, who died while leading a club trip to Devils Crag in the Sierra Nevada. Dave was instrum ental in the founding of the club and continued to be one o f our most active leaders. He will be sorely missed by us all. O ur climbing schedule this year continued to include a variety o f Sierra climbs, desert peaks,
volcano climbing in the Northw est and Mexico, and rock clim bing at Owens River, Joshua Tree, Tahquitz, Granite M ountains, and Red Rocks, to name a few. In addition, training workshops in crevasse rescue, basic snow climbing, rock climbing, and w inter m ountaineering sessions were held and were generally well attended.
