The Diocese of St. Davids Continuing Ministerial Development 2015 PROGRAMME
Continuing Ministerial Development Training Day Tuesday 24 February 2015 10.00 am – 5.00 pm (in two distinct parts) Y Llwyfan, University of Wales: Trinity Saint David, College Road, Carmarthen Please note: 1
Lack of room availability in the Halliwell Centre means that this session is taking place in Y Llwyfan which is located on the other side of College Road from the main university buildings, not far from the point where College Road meets Job’s Well Road and Pentremeurig Road. Please park either in the main university car park, off College Road, or the Carmarthenshire County Council car park on Pentremeurig Road.

A very important session has been added to the end of the day so that all clerics may be aware of changes in the law pertaining to marriage. Due to the time pressures facing everyone, it was decided to hold one training day, slightly longer than normal, rather than arranging two entirely separate events.
PART I: 10.00am – 3.30pm Learning to be the Diocese that God wants us to be Revd. John Hancock Overview of Part I The aim of the day is to equip clergy better to facilitate a learning-based approach to revitalising the churches, rejuvenating the people, restructuring the Diocese and re-imagining ministry. During the day we will review our understanding about the strategy and explore some key issues for clergy in leading strategy delivery, situating the issues within change management theory, specifically the learning-based approach to change.
Speaker: the Revd. John Hancock The Revd. John Hancock is the Assistant Curate SSM(L) in the Parish of Llanstadwell. He is also the Care Director for The Carningli Trust Ltd, a charity that provides homes for adults with learning difficulties in a rapidly changing financial, political and social context. He has recently wound up his consultancy business, which from 2000 worked with suppliers and customers to deliver significant changes in the way military aircraft maintenance is managed. He has a degree in mechanical engineering and was an RAF Engineer Officer from 1977 to 2000. He was involved in
lecturing at the RAF College and delivering significant post cold-war change as well as leading the technicians who supplied and maintained RAF aircraft, culminating with command of the logistics component for the UK Airborne Early Warning aircraft deployed over the Former Yugoslavia in Operation Deny Flight. John also has a masters’ degree in business and was a part-time research fellow studying and lecturing in the field of organisational change and learning at The Cranfield School of Management from 2000 to 2005.

PART II: 4.00 – 5.00pm Understanding the implications of the Immigration Act 2014 Mr Anthony Jenkins and Mrs Andrea Rowlands Overview of Part II The Immigration Act 2014 amends Section 5 of the Marriage Act 1949. As a result, the Banns process and the Common Licence process will not be available in certain circumstances. Even when those traditional processes are still available, there are new responsibilities imposed on the clergy. It is vital that all clerics attend in order to become aware of these changes. No one would want to fall foul of these legislative changes due to the unpleasant consequences, both financial and otherwise, that would result. Mr Anthony Jenkins, our Diocesan Registrar, will give an overview of the changes imposed by the Immigration Act 2014 concerning marriage law and the impact that this will have on clergy. Mrs Andrea Rowlands, Civil Registration Manager and Superintendent Registrar for Carmarthenshire, will be available to answer questions that may arise.
Please keep 15 July free as we intend to hold a day following up some of the insights from John’s presentation.

Thursday 8 October 2015 9.30 am - 4.30 pm St. Mary’s Church Hall, High Street, Tenby

This workshop, which is open to all clergy in the Diocese, will offer an introduction to handling conflict constructively in the life of the church. Practical in emphasis, the aim is to increase confidence in facing challenging situations, and in equipping others to do so. Although focused on a church context, the skills and insights learned will be relevant to other areas of life.
Trainer Colin Moulds is Executive Director of Bridge Builders (www.bbministries.org.uk). Before joining the staff of Bridge Builders in February 2015, he ran his own business, providing workplace mediation, change management consultancy, and skills training for mediation, conflict management, and management development.

Stephen Adams (dates to be confirmed once interest gathers) and the more substantial ‘Transforming Church Conflict’ – delivered residentially by Bridge Builders over five days (22-27 November 2015). See the Church in Wales 2015 Training Programme for more details, or contact Ffion Williams: E-mail:
[email protected] Tel: 029 2083 8007 If you decide to participate in either of these residential courses then please do not register for the one-day sessions offered in the diocese as the residential courses will cover everything surveyed in the one-day course but in greater depth.
Developing New Forms of Ministry Tuesday 24 November 10.00am – 3.30pm Teifi Suite, Halliwell Centre, University of Wales: Trinity Saint David, College Road, Carmarthen
Overview Throughout the Church in Wales new patterns of ministry are emerging, including the development of pioneer ministry which seeks to establish and sustain fresh expressions of Church that engage meaningfully and profoundly within particular aspects of contemporary culture.
Speakers The Revd. Canon Dr. Adrian Chatfield is a Mirfield-trained Trinidadian Anglican priest who has worked in parish and teaching contexts for forty years, in the Province of the West Indies, the Anglican Church in Southern Africa and in the Church of England. He currently teaches Worship, Spirituality, Anglicanism and some Biblical Theology at Ridley Hall, Cambridge and runs the Simeon Centre for Prayer and the Spiritual Life. As a member of the national Fresh Expressions team, he has a special interest in new forms of church and pioneering ministries, while continuing to treasure the inherited tradition. Married with two children and four granddaughters, he loves praying while running, through the lens of a camera, and on mountain ridges. Mrs Helen Shepherd is the Pioneer Ministry Development Officer for the Diocese of Monmouth. Her background is in youth and community work and most recently she was Centre Director of Durham Youth for Christ where she oversaw a range of pioneering youthwork initiatives. Since taking on the role in the Diocese of Monmouth, Helen has been helping support the development of new forms of church. She is keen to encourage people within the church that by building on what the church is already doing in its community, new forms of church might emerge more naturally and simply that we might think!
