Leadership & Team/Organization Engagement Assessment (for Leaders): ! The Employee Engagement Equation Assessment is a diagnostic tool. It serves as a guide to help you develop your leadership style in a manner that, in just a short period of time, will allow you to build a highly motivated team. There are 21 engagement areas of organizational and team leadership that can make a significant difference when fulfilled at the highest level. This Assessment is just a small subset of “The Leadership Audit” developed by Jim Smith, The Executive Happiness Coach® a comprehensive Leadership Assessment of 100 key leadership characteristics over 10 vital leadership responsibilities (if interested in that assessment as well feel free to email Jim at [email protected]

Instructions: 1. Start by checking the box preceding any of the 21 statements. And, add up your score. 2. Be a rigorous, hard grader: If the statement is sometimes, or usually true, PLEASE DO NOT check the box until the statement is virtually always true for you. 3. Use the same context for every statement: Behavior is situational, e.g., a statement may be true at work but not at home. Be consistent with your interpretation. 4. If the statement does not apply to you, check the box: If, because of your role and responsibilities, or particular situation, you may come across a statement that is impossible for you to fulfill you will get credit for it, since it will never apply. However, you may adjust statements slightly so they can fit your situation better. 5. Record Your Score at the End of the Assessment. 6. Make notes on actions you want to take, or questions you have regarding each area so that you can discuss them with your coach.!!

Part 1: Leaders’ Inspiration

 As the leader of the team/organization I have developed an inspiring Vision.  I have articulated my Vision for the team/organization in a manner that is inspiring to myself, and others.

 I have developed a Strategy that can be implemented that will move us towards the fulfillment of that Vision.

 I have shared the Strategy with my team/organization and have allowed an opportunity for feedback and contributions to making it better.

Leadership & Team/Organization Engagement Assessment (for Leaders): ! Part 2: Leaders’ Humility, Compassion & Empathy

 Humility is one of my core values and I know how to use it to balance a strong leadership personality.  I am open to constructive feedback from others, and encourage it, when it is delivered in a positive, respectful manner.

 I am always looking to improve myself, personally and professionally, and invest time, money and other resources to do so.

 I create a learning environment by treating mistakes as learning opportunities.  I encourage people to take appropriate breaks from work and to use their full vacation.  I am flexible with team members who bring personal challenges to my attention in a timely manner, and make reasonable accommodations to support them.

 I encourage consistent, positive suggestions and other contributions to our workplace, workflow

processes by team members and always 100% of the time make sure that the communication loop is closed on their suggestions with an answer that includes either a “yes, let’s do it,” or “no, we can’t do it and here’s why.”

 I put myself in “others’ shoes” and seek first to understand their perspective on issues.  I seek to “fix” the problem, not the blame.  I don’t’ ask my team to do anything that I wouldn’t ask of myself, or haven’t done previously, providing that it isn’t illegal, unethical, or immoral.

 I know how to listen with, and I am comfortable that I know how to respond, with empathy.  I understand that responding with empathy doesn’t necessarily mean I am relieving a team member of

the responsibility for the situation about which we are communicating and that together we will define appropriate solutions.

Part 3: Employees’ Unique Aspiration(s)

 I don’t assume that what motivates me, motivates others.  I communicate with my team members regularly and take notice of what is important to them.  I keep notes on which I identify areas of interest and importance to my team members and use that to reward and provide customized incentives for them.

 I communicate with them to know their professional, and even some personal, aspirations so that I can find ways to connect their role on our team to those aspirations.
