Why Support an Endowment Fund?

How can you help? Your gift will be part of a cornerstone we are laying now that will be the basis for outreach and ministry well into the future. But your gift does not have to be paid now—most endowments are built over time, using bequests, trusts and other extended or delayed forms of giving. By helping fund our endowment, you will help to build a Christ-centered legacy that will serve others in our community and around the world.

This church—Christ United Methodist Church—is a wonderful spiritual home for you and so many others. And even though you support the church with your regular giving, we are asking you to consider helping us fund the endowment fund that will live on beyond our years, helping to continue the ministries of this church. Our General Endowment Fund, by design, will not be used to fund annual operations. All proceeds must be used for special outreach and social service ministries. Using only the earnings from the invested endowment, Christ UMC will be able to fund outreach ministries — sharing God’s love for decades to come.

The Endowment Fund Expand Your Reach Now — and for Generations to Come

Plan to Make A Difference The Christ UMC Endowment Fund represents a long-lasting commitment to the life of this church and to the lives of future generations.

Plan Now As you make plans for your financial future, consider how you might make a difference through the Christ UMC Endowment Fund.

How can I make a gift to the Endowment Fund? There are a variety of ways you can give to the Endowment Fund. It’s a good idea to speak with an advisor before deciding the best way for you. Examples are: 

Through your will or trust— Leave a lasting legacy with a gift through your estate plan. You can gift a specific amount, a specific asset (stock, property), or a percentage (such as a tithe).

Outright gift—A donation of cash, appreciated stock, real estate or personal property

Charitable Gift Annuity or Charitable Remainder Trusts—You receive a current income tax deduction and income for life (or two lives jointly). The rates are attractive for seniors and your church can receive the remainder.

Beneficiary Designations— Name the Christ UMC Endowment Fund as the beneficiary of an IRA or 401(k), or an insurance policy. This is often an easy way to support future ministries.

Life Estate—Donate your home today, but retain full ownership during your lifetime. This creates a current tax deductible gift and can simplify estate plans.

How is the Endowment Fund Administered? It is administered by a committee of church members elected each year by the Church Conference.

Your endowment fund gift can be part of the general endowment fund or can be designated for special ministries such as:

The gift you make is called the principal. The principal is invested, professionally managed, and income earned becomes available for use. Principal amounts are never spent. Individuals and groups may apply to use the available funds from the earnings for needed projects and programs. The Endowment Fund Committee, along with the Church Council, determine the best use for the earnings from the general endowment.

Mission activities Property & facility improvements Special CUMC ministries Scholarships

The earnings are not used for the regular and recurring operating expenses of the church.

Does the Endowment Fund replace Memorial Funds? No, it does not. Our church often receives gifts in memory of individuals, and those funds can continue to go into the Memorial Fund. The Endowment Fund is an alternative and is structured completely differently.
