This 19th-century depiction of the Circumcision and Naming of Jesus was done in stained glass for the Priory Church of St. Mary and St. Cuthbert at Bolton Abbey in North Yorkshire, England. Augustus Welby Northmore Pugin (1812–1852 A.D.), was an architect, artist, archeologist, and ecclesiologist. Bolton Abbey is an estate in Wharfedale in North Yorkshire, England, named after a ruined 12th-century Augustinian monastery now called Bolton Priory. Organized in 1120 A. D., the site at Bolton Abbey was founded in 1154 A. D. by the Augustinian Order, In the early 14th century Scottish raiders caused the temporary abandonment of the site and serious structural damage to the priory. The Dissolution of Monasteries in 1539 A. D. resulted in the termination of the Bolton Priory, which is now in ruins.
