Edition 222
Welcome back students and staff. I hope everyone had a relaxing Christmas break with friends and family. It is full steam ahead this term, as Year 11s prepare for their Mock Exams week which started today, Friday 9 January. The all important GCSE exams are fast approaching, and we want to ensure that all of our Year 11 students are ready for these crucial examinations. Year 9 also have a crucial landmark in their academic career, as they will be asked to make those all important GCSE option choices with Year 9 Parents and Options Evening on 12 February. Key Stage 3 parents will have received the REAL Learning Week project choices. We hope that you had time over the break to discuss these with your child so they can make their final three choices during tutor time next week. It is shaping up to be a very exciting and diverse week! Please refer to our website if you have not had a chance to review the full project synopsis’.

performances of “Room 101”, where Year 8 students presented their dramatized scripts of Gothic Horror Stories. Year 9 displayed their creative responses to Macbeth as well as their satirical fairy tales, argumentative articles and persuasive monologues based around the iconic and haunting Shakespeare play. As visitors made their way to the Atrium, they were greeted with a vast display of
student work from English,
Spanish and Accelerated Learning including a display of the Years 7s “Spanish Armada”. Their was an array of extensive writing by Year 9 Spanish students for guests to read about students’ description of aspects of school life. Also displayed were the Year 7 Language Trees; 3D representations of their home learning project investigating European Languages. After browsing the superb exhibition of Accelerated Learning, Spanish and English work, parents were invited to watch a showcase in the main hall. This showcase consisted of fantastic Year 7 Dance performances that had been inspired by pieces of Narrative Art. There were also readings of Gothic Horror and Fairy tales from Year 8 and 9 students. A first for the school was a Spanish Drama performance by Year 7 students based on Christopher Columbus.
The showcase completed an outstanding evening of exceptional student work. Thank you to all who attended and congratulations to students for all their impressive work.
STAFF VERSES STUDENTS CHARITY NETBALL MATCH On the 18 December, staff and students went head to head in a staff verses students Netball Match. The event was organised to raise money to support the fundraising efforts of our students going to Kenya.
The “Dream Team”
Students who attended to play or watch commented that they would never forget “the memories of staff who go the extra mile”. One staff member commented, “I’ve never played netball, I’ve always dismissed it...but I really enjoyed this afternoon”!
Thanks to all who took part and contributed. The monies raised will become part of the growing fund towards sending Callum, Chivonne and Shannon to Kenya to support the CAMPS International Community Project. CAMPS International offers educational trips to students and the chance to make a difference to the lives of disadvantaged communities and wildlife in Africa. All three students have been working hard to raise money for their trip. Watch this space for future fundraising activities that you can be involved with!
THE CAUSEWAY PERFORMS JACK AND THE BEANSTALK On Friday 23 and Saturday 24 January, the talented Causeway Drama Students will be performing their version of Jack and the Beanstalk. The screenplay has been written by one of our very own talented playwrights, Josephine Carter, Year 10.
We would like to invite all students, staff, parents and friends to come and support the hard work of the students who put the show together. Tickets are £3 for adults, £2 for children and £1 for Causeway students. Students can purchase tickets from the payment station during tutor time. Tickets are also on sale for parents at reception.
