“If you love me, you will keep my commandments.“ - Jesus of Nazareth
Leviticus 1:1
Leviticus 27:34 Commandments and Regulations for the Covenant Community
Speak to the people…
…These are the commandments
NT Wright notes that Torah "is given for a specific period of time, and is then set aside – not because it was a bad thing now happily abolished, but because it was a good thing whose purpose had now been accomplished." According to the letter to the Hebrews, Jesus brings "substance" to the Old Testament's "shadows," fully embodying humanities and Israel's story. Thus, if we stop at Old Testament texts without allowing Christ – the second Adam and the new, true Israel – to illuminate them, our reading and interpretation of the Old Testament will be greatly impoverished.
